Last October (2017) I replaced 3 oldish fire/smoke-alarms with 3 Kidde Firex KF10. All have functioned correctly until one day ago, when the alarm at the top of the stairs within the loft extension failed to show the green LED. I checked the local fuse box & no evidence of any tripping, and the lights (on which I assume this to be connected) were working correctly. I have removed the alarm from the ceiling, but cannot see any obvious fault, & have checked the wiring back into the ceiling for loose connections. Depressing the "hush button" gives the necessary short alarm note. the other 2 alarms have the green LED on. As a red herring, my wife heard a distinct "clu…

Hi guys, I have a question regarding automatic detection in a small converted 'block of flats'. It's a two storey house converted to two flats, one flat ground and one flat 1st floor. Both flats accessed from small ground floor communal hallway. Communal hallway is ground floor only. So in 'Sleeping Accommodation' it says Grade D LD2 in communal areas for small premises however in LACORS it adds to that, interlinked heat detection in flat hallways. Obviously there is the question of how much control you have of a leashold flat for example. So the question is why the difference in the two guidance and am I missing something, what is the latest a…

I came across Grade D detection in the communal areas of a purpose built block of flats, it was not interlinked to the flats, would this be described as a part 1 or a part 6 system as it was communal areas?

Hi I've just replaced an Ei151TL after the old one started behaving erratically/bleeping etc, but the green light isn't on ie there's no mains power. It's interconnected to two other smoke alarms of different manufacture. I have checked all the connections to all three and all seems OK, but still no green light! They're all clearly working but from their batteries. We had new circuitry installed 18 months ago and unlike before there's no separate circuit for smoke alarms, and although I'm not sure which circuit the alarms are on, everything else in the house seems to be working just fine. I'm baffled. Anyone?

I am replacing my old EI ionisation 150 smoke alarms. Hallway and landing are both the same. I understand these are discontinued but the replacement your recommending is EI 3016 but these are optical. Will these be fine.

I bought a new home with the deta smoke alarms fitted in 2017, one alarm started chirping, so replaced the battery with a 9v Varta battery. When I replaced it and flipped the fuse on the box it started alarming straight away setting the whole house off - rather annoying, so I removed battery and replaced and again alarm sounding. Am I doing something wrong?

in my house we have two fire alarms, one upstairs and one downstairs. recently the downstairs alarm has been going off for no reason several nights in a row and would typically last as long as any fire alarm would, is this something i should worry about or possibly just a technical issue?

I have an Ei164RC smoke alarm installed in my kitchen, it has been working fine for about 4 1/2 years since it was fitted, but it has just started to beep every 35-40 seconds. I have tried hoovering it, and also pressing the test button for 10+ seconds to reset. Is there anything else I can try or does it need to be replaced? For information the replacement date on the side is March 2027.

Hi I bought BK660MBX BRK Mains Powered Smoke Alarm, Version 660MBX in May 2017 Recently, alarm was beeping every 45 seconds so I changed the Lithium battery you supplied with a new Duracell as advised in the Manual. The alarm still keeps beeping. I checked the Manual and verified all of the following: - I've checked the fuse in the power circuit to the alarm - I have gently vacuumed as instructed - installed another new Duracell battery Still the alarm beeps every 45 seconds in this particular unit The other two identical alarms I bought from you and installed on other floors of the house have had their batteries replaced and are n…

I just replaced an old mains smoke alarm with a BRK 660 MBX. Now, the old one had a green light on all the time, this new one i needed to change the baseplate as well, as the connectors were different, so i pulled the wires down through the hole from the ceiling, so i had three bare wires, brown, blue and white, screwed the baseplate to the ceiling and loosened the small screws so i could put each wire into the connection, blue wire opposite the blue wire in the baseplate, brown opposite brown wire and white opposite white wire. and tightened the screws, now, this white wire from the ceiling had fallen out of the ceiling with some yellow and green tape around the end of i…

My Ei151 ionisation smoke alarm is 25 years old. About 10 years ago I renewed the batteries. It has now started spontaneously going off, for no reason. When I press the test button all appears to be working correctly. Any advice would be appreciated

Hi. I have installed a total of 8 SW1-R & 1 HW1-R alarms in a property. After a year the customer has complained that they are all going off approximately every 3 days. There are no low battery warnings. I have been back and checked all connections, hovered out the units and changed the batteries for good measure. They are still going off and the customer said 'they sound 3 times and stop' (customer words) I fit loads of these and haven't had this before so any help is greatly appreciated

Hi - I hope someone can assist. For a mobile home I assume it needs a BS5839Pt 6 fire alarm system. Does anyone know what grade and category it should be? Thanks for your help.

Worth having a look at this system as an alternative to the typical grade D systems. However, the system has only one li-ion battery which provides 72hours of backup. Many housing authorities may not accept this as lots of electrical installations have card meters.

Hi all, new to this. I recently inspected a two storey property. The building has one flat on each floor. They were built circa 1950s as purpose built accommodation for the e elderly and there has been no material or structural changes up to now. I saw the smoke alarm which isn’t ld3 located very close to the wall. Does anyone know the required distance detector has to be from wall when using lacors. thanks in advance.

Hi, I have 8 EI141RC smoke alarms in the house which are interlinked with a wire. Recently I have noticed that they are no longer linked when one goes off (since tested multiple to see if an individual unit issue). I had some work done where a mains cable was cut and then reconnected via a junction box. Is there a way of telling if this is the cause or if the bases/alarms are damaged and need replacing? All were fitted at the same time around 5 years ago so not too old. Many thanks.

Hey, Trying to find a replacement Smoke Alarm, currently have 2 of the EI166RC mains smoke alarms installed, I think the battery has started to go on one of them so need a replacement and as both alarms were fitted at the same time i assume it is not long before the other one has issues as well. Do i have any other options or am i looking at having to spend £100 on 2 of the Ei166e smoke alarms that as far as i am aware should use the same base as the EI166RC?

Hi, I've just replaced 2 x Kidde Firex KF10R's with the same type. Before installing, I checked the voltage to the units-both read 235 volts, I checked for continuity between both units on the interlink cable & it was OK. However, the 'master' unit (the 1st unit on the mains supply circuit) is not showing the green LED whereas the 'slave' unit is showing the green LED. I have swopped the units over & the same situation arrises. When testing, either unit brings the alarm on individually along with the red LED on each

I had a loft conversion around 5 years ago and I think the builders left an old battery operated alarm under the new flooring. We have heard a beep for a year or so but last night this changed to a ringing sound like an old modem telephone line trying to connect. There was a new mains powered alarm fitted at the same time in the same area. I shall be grateful of anyone can advise whether either of the alarms could cause this before I start pulling up floorboards Thank you.
