Hi, I have an Ei146RC smoke alarm in the attic (and in most rooms in the house). Last week it started beeping so I replaced the battery. The beeping stopped. However this morning it started beeping again. I’m wondering if the alarm might be faulty seeing as it has a new battery. The alarm itself is under 4 years old as I only moved into the newly built house 3.5 years ago. I'm 100% certain the alarm that is beeping is the one I replaced the battery on as there is no other alarm in the attic. Also there are no spare alarms up there too. When the alarm is connected the green light is on and no red is on. The replacement battery is a Panasonic P…

We run sheltered housing for the elderly and need to upgrade our current detection system. At present we have hardwired D2 sensors externally monitored, but only a single one inside the front door lobbies. The system is old and when we replace it, we will need to be installing sensors throughout the living spaces. This will be hugely disruptive and costly, as it will mean running hardwires in roof voids, and putting trunking all over the place. The regs seem to insist we can only have D2 in this type of housing, but I don't understand why F2 sensors are not as good. We have found a supplier who will provide radio interlinked sensors, and if they are faulty, or th…

Hello, can anyone please advise. Is there any guidance which provides info on when a 5839 system should be replaced or part replaced. I have seen CIBSE part M which mentions - Fire detection and alarm systems 15 years (Components include break-glass boxes, sounders, sensors, batteries, shutters, door fire curtains, exit detectors, smoke release vents, indicator and control panels and fire doors etc). My thoughts are that some detectors and equipment may be subject to extremes of temperature and perhaps be in humid atmospheres in dirty dusty environments. Some are in heated office blocks, flats, schools, hotels, care homes etc. Is is normal to carry out such…

I am a little confused and after some guidance. A mid terrace house converted to 6 flats over three storeys in 2005 should be subject to building regs. It would therefore not come under LACORS, so would it then come under 'Purpose Built Block' guidance? (although a conversion have been converted to purpose built flats)? Im mainly interested so I can ascertain the need / no need for detection! Many thanks as always.

Good morning, I'm currently looking at my fire alarms due to the impending changes in fire safety legislation in Scotland. My house currently has 3 Deta 1111 smoke alarms - which appear to be interlinked (when I press test on them only the smoke alarm being tested goes off, none of the others do - but when the smoke alarm goes off through dodgy cooking all 3 go off) is this right? I understand that the 1111 alarms are now dated - and the 1151 are the newer verson - is it worthwhile upgrading these? My house is around 8 years old and the 1111 alarms have been in since being built. My house doesn't have a heat alarm in the kitchen, so I need to get one - i…

Can you tell me what the minimum height of a roof void is before it requires a smoke detector?

Good Afternoon. I wonder if anyone can be of assistance. I purchased an Ei146RC smoke alarm to replace an older Ei146 which was emitting a persistent beep warning even after battery replacement. The unit had also passed it's end of life date. However I am unable to attach the new Ei146RC to the existing 12 year+ Ei146 base. Whilst it appears to mount as expected I am meeting firm resistance in the final couple of millimetres of horizontal travel and it won't fully lock into place. I've tried numerous times. I don't have this issue with the older Ei146. Should an Ei146RC be compatible with an older Ei146 base? Any suggestions would be much appreciated. For i…

Hi there, We have a system of 3 alarms in our flat that are connected to the mains (an Ei3014 Heat Alarm and two Ei3016 Optical Alarms). One of the Ei3016s has developed a fault (constant false alarms that couldn't be silenced) and this necessitated the alarm being removed from its base. I obviously turned off the circuit it's connected to in order to do this safely, and the removal went fine, but whilst we're sorting out a replacement, is it safe to turn the circuit back on despite the fact there's an alarm missing currently? I realise that might seem like a silly question, but there'd obviously be power still going to the base of the alarm that isn't currentl…

Hello, i recently changed the back up battery in an ei141 after being alerted by the intermittent beep. So the beeping has stopped, and the green light is on but the red light which flashes to indicate that it’s working correctly has stopped? Any ideas where I went wrong? Any advice appreciated as I’m worried now that it’ll go off randomly in the night!

HI I have a block of flats that has three converted flats over three floors and another flat with an independent entrance to the side. I have recommended as per LACORS Grade A of LD2 coverage, should the flat with the independent entrance also be linked as the compartmentation cannot be assured? Also on a separate note, commercial = part 1, residential Grade A, what are the differences s i cant see for looking? Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi All, I have a Deta 1151 smoke detector, and it was going off when I cam home last night. I thought it must be the battery, so I have purchased brand new Duracell batteries, replaced, and put back up, 5 mins after pushing the button to give me silence, its going off again. A neighbour is a fireman, and the fire engine just happened to come by this afternoon, so I got them to look at it - they did exactly the same as me, battery in, put it back up, and mains light was green, but red light would flash periodically, and then off it goes after 5 mins. Does anyone have any ideas? Date on the back is 2025. Unfortunately though, the fireman who fitted th…

Early this morning our smoke alarm start to beep once every 40 seconds so as before, I followed procedure to replace the Duracell battery. After doing so however, the alarm now beeps once a second along with the flashing red light. I can't find any reference to this in user manuals or trouble shooting. Any ideas please?

Hello: Can you kindly advise if there is a known problem with this alarm (batch: 17110-17326J). Supplied/fitted by a Brigade c one year ago, it's intermittently sounding full alarm (replace end Jul 2028), with no evidence of smoke and no other smoke/carbon monoxide alarms in the house sounding (inc another identical model - two were supplied). After the first false alarm it has been vacuumed of dust but is still sounding intermittently. This is NOT the low battery signal. Have asked FireAngel for replacement. Many thanks, Marcus
