Hi, Our new kitchen extension is open plan onto the downstairs hall and staircase. So we've fitted linked alarms in kitchen (heat), hall (smoke) and landing (smoke), and fitted egress window hinges to all bedrooms. Building control now want a linked smoke alarm fitted in the master bedroom, along with a fire door, because the master bedroom has an ensuite bathroom. I don't understand the need for a bedroom fire door and bedroom linked smoke alarm just because the bedroom has an ensuite. Please can somebody explain. Thanks.

Hi I have one mains operated Fire Angel Pro, and Two wireless WHT 630’s (1 smoke and 1 heat). All 3 chirp once randomly but there is hours between the chirps. This some times only happens once or twice a day and sometimes more. All lights appear to be as they should. Any suggestions please ? Thanks

Hi, I am looking to replace two FireAngel ST-620 units. Both have been replaced under guarantee at least once, one twice. The latest bleeper expires in 2027, FireAngel replace them promptly but my home and family are unprotected while I work away, plus one is out of reach so not easy to disable. Can anyone recommend a reliable alternative? One is downstairs by the front door at the foot of the stairs, the other on the upstairs landing. Cheers Mike

We have three fire alarms, one on each floor. One needed replacing so we got the Easichange for Ei166RC. The alarm works on test but it's not synced with the other two alarms. All three used to sync, how can we get them to all sound simultaneously when we is activated? Thanks

Hi, could someone advise, we had an Ei168RC (only one unit) installed as part of a new kitchen build in 2016. It has just started to chirp approx every 10 seconds or so. I've tried to reset by holding down the test button for about 10s, but no luck. I've shut off the mains to it and reconnected bu, again, no luck. Can anyone help? My wife is self isolating at the moment, so I don't really want the risk of having trades in the house. Thanks in advance

I have an Ei 144 heat alarm in the kitchen, an Ei 141 in the hall and another on the landing. The one on the landing started beeping every 40 secs. I have disabled all alarms at the fuse box and no green lights are visible, I have taken all 3 units off the base units and taken out the batteries and still every 40 secs the base unit on the landing keeps beeping. Will it run out of energy and how long will this take? Thanks.

Hi there We have a smoke alarm in the kitchen that has been chirping every few minutes for a few days. We have just changed the batteries (it’s mains powered too) in all three of our alarms in the house to no avail. When the mains is off, and the batteries are out it still chirps from the base in the ceiling. Absolutely no other alarm in the house whatsoever. I pressed the test button on each alarm after replacing the batteries in each. Any ideas? Thank you Laura

Hi, My father who currently has just had major surgery has serious problems with his Ei156LH smoke alarm. The layout of the house is that there is an Ei156LH downstairs and an E151LH upstairs. From what I can see the upstairs works fine. The downstairs alarm has had a habit of going off randomly, mostly in the evening and overnight but never during the day. The problem is that him getting up to turn it off is hard for him to reach. There is no burning or smoke anywhere and the upstairs alarm whilst ringing, appears to be working fine and isn't the source of the false alarms. I've cleaned the Ei156LH out as well as I can bearing in mind it's a sea…

I have two mbx660 mains powered smoke detectors and recently I experienced chirping which I discovered was related to back up battery which I replaced. All good. The other smoke detector has now had the same problem however when I change the battery the alarm goes off and only stops when I remove the battery. Can you advise what the issue may be?

Just a quickie about testing fire alarms in commercial premises: From a fire risk assessors perspective, is it a statutory requirement for a client to test the fire alarm (emergency lights, ventilation systems, automatic door closers, etc.) or a recommendation based on the relevant British Standard? This might be hair-splitting or just plain pedantic, but my thoughts are it's not illegal not to do it (although the outcome of not doing so may become a legal matter) Thank you.

Within my flat we have a alarm system which beeps every night around 21.00 and stops in the morning. When the alarm beeps it also displays an error message which reads ‘General Fault’. The company who services the alarm have sent engineers on numerous occasions to check the alarm. The problem is this: the engineers arrives during the day when the alarm is working normally. The engineer then leaves the property reporting that everything is fine. The fire alarm company, as well as the engineers are aware that the beeping starts at night. The engineers claim that they can only diagnose the issue if they arrive and the alarm is beeping. I…

Hi, My mains powered smoke detectors (4 x Ionisation Smoke Alarm Ei151TL) have started to go off with no reason. Few of months ago, I took them all off and gave them a good clean and they have been ok till this morning, they went off. SO I have to take them out. I can see that they are discontinued and I won't be able to get same one to replace. My question is, are there any compatible models that i can buy and plug in to the same base? If the answer is no, what model do you recommend that I can buy and get an electrician to fit them for me? Thanks

This morning my husband set off the smoke detector making breakfast for guests, the smoke alarms went off and we could not get it to turn off. The only way to turn them off (after 10 minutes of trying) was to turn off at mains and remove the alarms from the bases. We have tried replacing them only for alarm to start again. I have looked through manuals and searched the internet to no avail. Can anyone help?

ULTRA-FIRE UBS 1RF Smoke Alarm and Radio-Interlink. Hello there, I wonder if you could help me please? For health reasons, we don't have Wi-Fi, cordless telephones etc. in our house, so I would like to know a bit more about the Radio-Interlink. Under normal 'standby' conditions, does it transmit continuously 24/7, which obviously wouldn't be suitable for our purposes, OR does it only transmit under certain circumstances i.e. for the few seconds when additional alarms are being programmed in, also when the test button is pressed, when a low batt alarm is given etc, and of course when there is an actual alarm, which of course would be acceptable for us? John L…

The council have recently fitted hard wired smoke alarms with battery back up in my flat, no idea of the make as I cant reach them to see. Over the past couple of weeks since theyve been installed I have heard a one off beep around 3am in the mornings, being a small flat Ive no idea what one beeped. Last week I was woken up by a one off very loud beep from the alarm in my bedroom and again this morning around the same time. The one off beep seems to be going from one alarm to another, not all on the same night though. I searched the internet and found that if the tempature lowers at night it can set off a beep on said alarm. I dont like heat in the bedroom in the winter …

My enquiry concerns a mains powered smoke alarm Ei151TL. The electricity was off for a while and since it has been switched back on the alarm beeps every few minutes. At first I assumed it was because it was recharging but it has now been days. The green light indicating that it is connected to the mains glows. Please could you advise? Can the batteries be replaced on this model? Or would I need to replace the whole unit? Is it just a case of holding down the test button for a while?

Hi I am replacing the battery on an Ionisation smoke alarm model Ei141 as it is beeping. I notice the cover says "replace by Sep 2020". Does that mean the unit or just the battery? I cannot see anything in the manual which explains this. Thanks.

Hello, The ei141 model in my flat is chirping every 30-40 seconds. The green light on the base is on, any clues on how to stop this? Asking here first as it is up quite high (high ceilings) and would like to minimise time spent on a wobbly ladder. Thanks for any help! Jake

Hi Safelincs Forum, My name's Craig and I'd like a second opinion on the replacement of a (rather old) Heat Alarm - and Smoke Detector - in my flat. I'll start with some background information and then outline my questions. The label on the existing Heat unit identifies it as an Ei Company Ltd. Ei153 This particular model number doesn't appear on the replacement smoke alarms page, the closest being presumably the Ei154. For replacement of Ei150 Series Heat Alarms in general, my understanding is that one could purchase the following 'Easichange' units: Ei154EK The Heat Alarm is on the ceiling in the kitchen. A cable exists (along with evid…
