With the recent worries about tumble drier safety, we would like to put a smoke alarm in our utility room. The room is quite small and has one ordinary door to the kitchen (always kept closed) and one fire door to the garage (of course also always kept closed). There is no window, but there is an fan, which automatically comes on when you enter the room. There is a washing machine and a tumble drier in the room. The tumble drier is a condenser drier and due to the small size of the room, the room gets very warm when the drier runs. The house was built about 3 years ago. What would be the best type of smoke alarm to use in this type of room? Thanks very much …

Hi, Live in a new build house 7yrs old, with 3 mains wired inter-connected smoke alarms, one per floor. Top one has started chirping about every 30 seconds. Continues to chirp when disconnected and battery taken out! Replacement date isn't for another year - has it just worn out early? Also it only seems to chirp in cold weather I.e. this time of year at night! Heating being on / hairdryer / vacuum treatment seems to fix it temporarily. It isn't battery as replacing this has no effect. Manufactured by Garvan from Hong Kong, have bought a new FireX mains powered inter-connected one but unsure if it'll talk to the other two Garvan ones and also needs electrician t…

As the clocks have just changed, why not change the battery in your smoke alarm now...........or you could wait until it starts to beep at an annoying time of the morning. Even some mains operated smoke alarms have a back up battery that will also need changing. Safelincs do supply batteries for smoke alarms Click here If you have an an Ei xxx smoke alarm or a Kidde mains smoke alarm and you are not sure how to change the battery, you can see the videos of how to change the battery if you Click here

I have 3 Kidde mains smoke alarms in my three floor house. The ground floor won't stop chirping even though the battery is more than 90 per cent full. It is a single chirp every 30 secs or so. They are model No. 123/9HI and are about 10 years old. What can I do to stop this?

I was wondering if you have any idea's on the following. My son who has a severe hearing loss has recently moved into new digs (block of flats), the integral fire alarm system is only up to 65dbs, the deafguard that has served him well up till now reacts at anything over 75db, so not much help here. Do you know if anything is out there that will vibrate/flash etc at 65db. When the flat fire alarm goes off. I have looked but not found much yet

Hi, We are removing a wall between our kitchen and hall in a domestic property, the property is over three floors. Building control have told us to consider a fire curtain and to conform to the BStandard part 6. I have a company to fit the curtain with a heat sensor in the kitchen, it is a period property and would be tricky/unsightly to wire in smoke detectors to the first and second floor landings. Would it be accepted to use wireless detectors in this situatioN. H.

Hello, I followed all the instructions to remove the fire alarm. However, even though I turned off the power source, the red light keeps flashing every minute, and the alarm keeps beeping a few times. Is everything all right as long as the green light is off, or should I do something else? Thank you!

We have 9 mains linked smoke alarms and 1 mains linked heat detector. I have replaced the battery on one of them which was 'wheeping'. Do I need to test each one separately or is pressing the button on one adequate? The combined noise is unbearable and doing it 10 times may cause a neighbour dispute!!

I am disabled and have a smoke alarm upstairs which sounds when a meal is being cooked - not burnt!- having had to struggle upstairs every 5 minutes recently to shut it up I have taken the batteries out. I am not happy with this but feel I am more likely to die from heart failure from trying to shut it up than actually getting caught in fire. Do you have any advice, perhaps remote control alarms?

Hello We have to buy 10 smoke alarms for our house as we are doing a loft conversion because we foster and everywhere has to have one! The prices range a great deal and I really don't have any idea what I shouldn't be buying. Obviously want to keep the cost down, but also want to know that they will work! Thanks for any help

I have a heat alarm in my kitchen and I have been wondering how I can test the actual sensor of the alarm, the alarm has a test button but i understand this will only test the alarms circuits and sounder. Is there a way I can test the actual sensing part of the alarm to make sure it is working?

We have recently bought Ei smoke alarms but we are not sure how to put them up as my husband says that they can't go anywhere on the ceiling but have to be attached to the rafters. As we don't know where the refters are we have seven smoke alarms sitting in a box as we are afraid to drill holes in ceiling. Can you use No More Nails? Thank you for any advice you can offer.
