Hi - I have 4 older e150 main powered smoke detectors in my house. The one installed underneath the staircase between the 1st and 2nd floor started chirping (every minute) for a few hours yesterday before going silent. it started this morning again so i dismounted (no electrical connections anymore) the smoke detector (lets call it A) and after one hour the chirping stopped but resumed again for the whole afternoon until 10pm. i dismounted another smoke detector (lets call it B) on the basement ceiling but the chirping continued (coming from where A was) i decided to cut the power off to all 4 smoke detectors but the chirping continued, preceded by one very loud bee…

Hi there, I was wondering if anyone could help with the following issue. The fire risk assessment carried out by the company which we have contracted states that we should have a smoke detector installed in our IT server room. The building is two storey and is only used for offices. This room is across an escape route. The problem we've got is the additional smoke detector required cannot be wired into the existing fire alarm control panel. Does anybody have a solution to this problem? I was thinking of using radio-linked smoke detectors: 1 inside this room and the other one on the corridor so that people can hear the fire alarm easily. Would this solution sati…

I work with a youth organization in the voluntary sector. My committee has been directed to purchase smoke detectors for each {max2-man} tent on a 12-tent campsite. I cannot find a suitable item/supplier. All detectors are for fixed structures eg houses and buildings. Please can you advise if there is detector for tents/camping? If such a device exists, is there a suitable CO detector as well? If "tent" devices are not available, where in the tent should building devices for smoke and CO be positioned? Many thanks. Charlie

Hi Could you please help me regarding the smoke, heat and carbon monoxide requirements for rented houses? Specifically whether there is a legal requirement for alarms to be interlinked in a 5 or 6 bedroom student house (not a licensed HMO) Thanks, Brett

Hi, I own a licensed HMO and our fire and heat detectors are coming up to 10 years since installation and will need replacing. I am aware that hard wired detectors need to be installed by a competent person, but is this necessary to replace the units? The replacements would just be a like for like switch over which would use the same wiring circuits that currently exist. The units are regularly tested as per regulations. Kind regards, Hayley

We are buying a new build with a smoke alarm in the kitchen and hallway. But I want an extra device under the stairs where the consumer unit and meters are. Do i need a heat alarm or smoke or combined? Also is the optical the same as the photoelectric? Thanks Nicky

Hi, my EI smoke alarm is sounding three short beeps. I have changed the battery, hoovered out and wiped down the unit and checked the best before date (2021). The unit is not even a year old but it is sounding 3 beeps roughly every minute still. How do I solve this without resorting to using a hammer. Thanks, Mark

My smoke detector (Firex 120-1123C) started chirping. When I removed them I saw it was out of date so I assumed that was the cause. After a lot of research I found a compatible replacement (Kidde 4870). Having replaced the old ones with new ones I thought I solved the problem but the new ones chirp as well. They seem to know when you are just falling asleep, then they start chirping. As they are brand new what could the problem be? I've checked in the loft for a fourth alarm but there isn't one.

This alarm is ringing for no reason. It's been installed for 5 years. The replacement date is 2022. I've switched it off in the consumer unit and removed the cover. What should I do now?

My Ei141RC blips every 2-3 seconds. Nothing in the manual states what could be the problem witha short interval like that. Mains supply is good (green light). Changed battery, still Blips. Replaced with brand new unit, same happens again as soon as I slot it in. Please note, it's not the Allarm-Sound like long Beeps, but rather just a short Blip.

hi there what is the acceptable way to SURFACE mount the cables between smoke detectors cos im thinking that twin and earth in a plastic mini trunking doesnt comply with the regulations that say fire supports need to be fire proof so im thinking you may as well go the whole hog and use white fp200 with white p clips rather than messing around trying to trying to use some kind of metal clips inside a plastic mini trunking any thoughts ? thanks alex

Hi All, I manage an estate agents which is in a building comprising of 3 floors. On the ground floor is one large open office area and on the 2nd and 3rd floors are 3 offices on each floor, leading from a landing area. At present I just have smoke detectors on each landing in the stairwell area and one in the bottom office, is this sufficient, or should I have a full fire alarm system installed? the office is occupied 9-5 mon-sat if this helps. thanks in advance for any information

We need to completely remove one Ei141 ionisation smoke alarm from the ceiling to make way for a fitted wardrobe (not just remove the cover). Does anyone know how to safely do this? Thanks

Hi - were are planning a kids disco at our house with lights and a smoke machine. We have fairly new Ei141 ionisation smoke alarms throughout the house, and have been told that the smoke machine will definitely set off the alarms. If I remove each individual alarm unit and remove the 9v battery from all the units throughout the house for a couple of hours during the party, will that work? I tried to see if all the alarms were on a single spur that could be switched off at the fuse box, but they don't seem to be - and even if they were, I'm guessing the 9v backup batteries would mean the alarms would trigger anyway. Any advice?

Hi I have an EI mains operated heat alarm that I removed from its base a couple of weeks ago because it was causing me huge problems. I went on holiday and forgot to reattach it to the base, and this morning I woke up and found the CO2 alarm chirping every 30 seconds. Silly question but do I simply need to reattach the heat alarm unit for the chirping on the CO2 alarm to stop? Are they interconnected somehow or not is this just an issue with my CO2 alarm?

Hi My EI151 alarm started beeping, which I presume was because it needs replacing as it is around 10 years old. I have removed and disposed of the alarm from the base and ordered a replacement, however there continues to be regular beeping from the base/wiring. Is there any way to stop this until my new unit arrives. Thanks

Hi all. All alarms in I'm house are ringing and I can't stop them despite having turned off switch in mains box. Water from a leak in the bath seems to have set them off, with water dripping through alarm box in sitting room two floors below the bath. Any advise as to how to stop noise most appreciated. Thanks
