Guest Pia
With the recent worries about tumble drier safety, we would like to put a smoke alarm in our utility room. The room is quite small and has one ordinary door to the kitchen (always kept closed) and one fire door to the garage (of course also always kept closed). There is no window, but there is an fan, which automatically comes on when you enter the room. There is a washing machine and a tumble drier in the room. The tumble drier is a condenser drier and due to the small size of the room, the room gets very warm when the drier runs. The house was built about 3 years ago. What would be the best type of smoke alarm to use in this type of room? Thanks very much Pia
Safelincs
Hi Pia, I have a similar arrangement and have been using an optical smoke alarm for a long time without false alarms. Harry
AnthonyB
If you can afford it, it's best to link your alarms (you can get radio linked domestic alarms now, no unsightly bell wire all over the house!) - if you were upstairs you may not hear your utility room alarm and smoke would spread until it activated other alarms
