Hello my boss has had a refurb done on our little building that makes window frames and patio doors, theres only 5 people upstairs, 2 people downstairs, and 1 out the back, but he hasnt put any doors on the entrance to the upstairs offices or from the showroom off of main entrance, (Yellow Circles in Pic) he said he`s checked the regs and doesnt need them because we`re not big enough and there is alternative exit upstairs to mezz floor and down to workshop, that means whole front of building open to smoke / fire contamination / spread, is he right, are doors not required, ? It is generally eccepted a 30 minute timber door should be 44mm and 60 minute timber should be 54mm in thickness, what about a metal door leaf? I have searched the forum as I'm sure this has been asked before but could not find the answer. Thanks

The doors also rattle when in the locked position? Please advise

Hello all, so I have been in a back and forth with landlord for some months now regarding my newly fitted flat entrance fire doors in that there is a gap under my door that is 15mm and my cat is trying to claw at the seals so I have put a strip across it but my cat destroyed that too, there are gas in the door above 4 mm and in some parts less than 2mm, there isn’t anything on the door showing the manufacturer, no labels or plug and both the landlord and contractor are refusing to give it ( assuming one actually exists) and whilst all the the doors in the block slams shut to the point it has become unbearable to live in, the door (well certainly mine as I don’t kno…

Hi, I own a flat and was told by a Fire Safety Inspecting Officer that I need to replace the front door of my flat, which opens onto a communal corridor, with a FD30s door. I have two issues which I could do with some advice please. 1) I have been quoted £1900 for this, which I cannot afford. Are there any schemes available to help home owners with the costs? I want to comply, and I understand the reasons for fire safety etc. I simply don’t have the money. 2) I have been on the bwf website, as I would rather use an approved supplier/installer, (assuming I can somehow find the funds) but any searches only come up with members nowhere near me, despite being near a…

Hi. I am working on a project where the owner has split a 1930s semi detached house into two flats. There is a communal front door which leads to a small (about 2m x 2m) hall, which has two front doors to each flat. Above each of the internal "front" doors is an opening that is roughly the width of the door, and about 40cm high. The owner is hoping to glaze these two openings with some sort of double-glazed glass units. This is to let some natural light in to the individual flats. The doors are FD30, but we have had no guidance from the architect on speccing this glass opening. My understanding is that is needs to be fire resistant glass (to 30 mins, as per the…

Hi all, I have recently completed my Fire Certificate and have been asked to conduct a fire RA at my local rugby club. I'm satisfied with most of it however....... None of the doors that lead from the main bar into corridors, toilets and other parts of the building appear to be fire doors. There are certainly no intumescent strips or smoke seals. They are all well fitting. As far as I can tell there is no compartmentation at all because of this. It's a brick and tile 2 storey building built in 1980. I've looked at the RRFSO and Approved document B but can't see anything obvious around having to replace old doors? I've see a previous post regarding 'not…

Hi, apologies if this has been answered elsewhere. Just wondering if it is ok to re edge chipboard core nominal fire door with hardwood and repair a section of the face veneer with a hardwood block? On another note i noticed a nominal fire door with intumescent brush strips in the edge of the door and flat intumescent strips routered into the frame. Is this acceptable. Thanks in advance for replies

Hi, We have some steel fire doors in my building which have had mag locks repositioned & taken away which have left holes in the doors. Can these doors be repaired or is a new door set required? Also one set of steel fire doors has the top half resting on the doorstop but the bottom half of the door is sitting away from the stop, which looks twisted. Will these need to be replaced?

Hi all, OK so there is a protected stairwell in a modern school that has a small server room under the stairs. There is an air grill fitted which appears to be fire rated intumescent however, no dampers to prevent cold smoke transfer. Is this acceptable? Thanks

Do steel doors need smoke seals? There is a seal around the door set at my work place but a seal is missing on one side. Is this a smoke seal or acoustic seal.

We have a client who has been on a Fire Door Course and was told that all installers must be certified under the new Fire Regs. Is this true? We have always known it that installers must be competent but there is no legal requirement to be officially certified. If this has changed, what is the best certification we should look to obtain as a company?
