I have just bought a flat, three-story block of flats in Cambridge. All of the internal doors are fire doors which I understand is a requirement. But all of them are fitted with a self-closing chain (see attached image). Currently the property is a private dwelling (I occupy it). But in future I will likely rent it. So my question: What are he UK requirements for internal doors in flats? Can someone point in the direction of the guide lines/requirements

I was wondering i have a council flat and the council told me i had to put a door closure on it. I put it on the outside of the door. The council told me it doesnt look right and should be put on the inside. I told them them the manufacturers instructions says it can be fitted on both sides of the door. They came back saying the head of maintainance said it should be on the back. Is there any regs that say what side it should be on? What are the fire regs on closers ? Thanks Vince

We have a client that has inserted ventilation panels into his paint mixing room fire door, to allow better air flow. We believe that this has damaged the integrity of the door and he should no longer class it as a fire door. Where can I find some documented evidence to support our belief and persuade him to buy a new fire door.

Hi Guys, First post here so hello everybody ? just a quick question, we've been asked to block up a doorway in a care home (advised by fire safety officer) Now we were going to use blocks and build a double skinned wall but do we really need to go to that length or can we just frame it out and use 15mm fireboard either side and skim? Thankyou for any input, Andy ?

I have a set of double leaf fire doors. Both doors have an automatic door bottom seal that is dropped when the button is pressed when it hits the rebate. All gaps between the door and floor are filled except a 15x6mm gap where the 2 stop so the doors can close properly. Is this acceptable or should there be another piece of equipment fitted to cover this small opening? Many thanks. Unable to upload photo due to file size.

Hi, I've had a builder replace a flat door with an fd30. It strips along the side of the door, but not at the bottom or top I think. Are these required? Also, when it was installed it had a 50mm gap at the bottom. I pointed this out and the builder added some material (assumed hardwood) to bring the gap to 3 mm; is that acceptable? Thanks for any assistance. Nick Batchelor

Hi there, I am trying to have a a new fire proof composite front door (external door to my flat which leads into a stair well) installed in my property. However, no one will come and do this for me because they say that the production of fire proof composite doors has been suspended because the government has not clarified it's regulation changes on fire doors in the wake of Grenfell. I understand why these changes are needed, but I am currently living in a property which has a basic timber front door in a block of flats and it is not fire safe. I need some advice about how I should proceed to make my property safe. Many thanks, Rebecca

Hi, I am getting a builder to replace some internal old timber doors with fire doors and let just say it isn't going well. A few of questions: 1) He has replaced the flat door with a fire door, but as it was 5 cm too short he has added a piece of hardwood to make up the difference - is that allowed? 2) Should there be brushes at the bottom of the fire door (he has done strips on the sides and top) 3) Should building control be involved, or do the doors need to be certified/checked in some way once installed? Finally does anyone know where I can quickly get bespoke 4 panel FD30s made - he screwed up and assumed the doors were standard sizes and is …

Hi all, Have been trying to get my head around building regulations all morning and would appreciate your help in getting to the bottom of this! I own a ground floor, ex council flat - the block is made of 8 flats, and is 4 stories high with each flat containing 2 floors. My flat is on the ground floor, with a private entrance into my own front garden however as I am the end block my flat is next to the staircase that leads upstairs. I have paid for a Composite door which is due to be installed next week - I got planning permission for this replacement, however did not realise this would potentially need to be a fire door. Islington is quite vague and puts…

Hi I have recently stayed in several hotels less than two years old which appear to have fire door provision sorted (correct place, self closers, three hinges etc etc yet absolutely no intumescent strips or cold smoke seals). They are on escape routes rather than as guest doors. How is this compliant? Thanks Mark

Hi all I have just been asked by a surveyor to take off additional hardwood lipping from a fire door and close the gap by adding softwood lining to the door frame as it looks more aesthetically pleasing. Logically I assume it would be better to have a firecheck hard wood lipping on the door rather than building out the doorframe with more softwood?
