Hello. Reading about Water Mist Extinguishers and getting a bit overloaded in conflicting forum conversations. In an office with 1- 6 litre foam and 1- 2kg co2 would 1 water mist be a suitable replacement? Many thanks

Hi, I don't know if installing a 2 litre AFFF foam extinguishers plus fire blanket and smoke alarms or I need to go for a 6 litre model? The apartment has 3 bedrooms 2 bathrooms and 1 small kitchen and a sizable living room. What should I choose? Thanks very much

Hi I have just been told BS 5306-8 Clause 8.2 referring to "Each storey with an area less than or equal to 400m² should have at least 2 extinguishers having a minimum total fire rating of 26A (e.g. minimum 2 x 3L Hydrospray or 2 x 9L foam)" became a mandatory legal requirement 6 months ago. Can you confirm that it is a legal requirement please.

Hi could anyone help. My son's friends thought it would be a good idea to let off his powder fire extinguisher in his room. Could anyone tell me best way to clean it up. He is slightly asthmatic. Would we need to throw away quilt pillows etc.. read to hoover and then wash.

Good afternoon I would like some advice on the best extinguishers to have in my place of work. We have a warehouse which is like a garage where we work on lorries and respray them. We do use cleaning thinners etc. What type of extiguishers do we need in the workshop? Would powder ones be right? Someone told me we couldnt have powder because it is an enclosed space (its a great big square barn!) so said i needed foam and co2, but having been online i see powder pretty much does everything we need, i.e. electrical or chemical? Please can I has some advice...client has purchased 50 x Water and 50 x CO2 extinguishers from the internet. All are BS EN 3 labeled. But, he has hung them himself without professional commissioning. Now, he has called his regular FRA man who is ex-Fire Service who has advised (in writing) that whilst BS5306 Part 8 says that they should be commissioned first, it doesn't say they must and they will be acceptable for the first year without needing to be professionally checked and certificated?? Why powder extinguishers are still sold? If AFFF is best... They told me that for general multirisk protection of shops offices or hotels powder is not recommended. What about for a home? Is it OK to install 2 x 6 litres AFFF and 1xCo2?can I have a 2kg powder in my car? Can I use foam spray on live electrical equipment up to 1000v at at least 1m? Is AFFF toxic or carcinogenic? Is true that ABC powder does not extinguish well class A fires? Are water based models better at this? Thanks

We have a new house near Bergamo, and we've installed 2 6 litre ABF foam with 21A 183B 75F for kitchen and home entrance. Then one 6 litre AB AFFF foam with 27A 233B on bedroom corridors a 2kg 34B co2 next to the foam one in the kitchen,a fire blanket and a 4kg ABC powder 21A 113B C at garage due to boilers and some electric devices. I have as well a 2kg ABC powder at my car with 13A 55B C. I've installed a heat alarm in the kitchen a Co alarm in garage and 4 smoke alarms in corridors and living room. Is all this appropriate Thanks very much. ?

Why do people use foam? Powder has a batter range on all A and B classes, and also is a cheaper way? Also powder can take out fire of electric devices. Is there any purpose where foam is the best choise comparing to any other type of extinguisher? Thanks

As Station Manager at an Airport with approval to retain Halon extinguishers until 2016, I have looked at many alternatives, in particular the use of inert gas. What quantities would I need to equate a 9kg BCF as I can't find any Class B Ratings on the old extinguishers? Thank you

Is a Co2 extinguisher safe for a confined space such as a subway station? We're planning to put cartridge 9l foam extinguishers + 2kg Co2? Are These when discharges dangerous enough to result in asphyxiation? Another alternative we didn't like was dry powder, it's very messy! You may reccomemd me water mist, but fire ratings are EXTREMELY LOW! what about inside the trains? What should I install?

Both have a solution mixed in water for example most foam are AFFF which makes it suitable for class A and B fires What is the main difference with water additive? Why water additive cannot be used on flammable liquid? (water may spread?) Thanks

In the local fire brigade i was told installing in private family homes a fire kit which consists of: -smoke alarms -fire blanket -powder extinguisher (if possible 4-6kg) I'm doubting powder because I was told in this forum the risk of inhalation of powder so its dismissed for commercial premises. And it is recomended for a home? Powder is for multiple fire risks such as homes? Are dry-water mist just too expensive? However dry powder is non toxic, isn't it? Thanks for help

This building was built in 2005, but they changed extinguishers as they expired, We have also an electric counter and a garage, despite this fire risks are not too high. I don't know if installing a 9 litre AFFF or a 6kg ABC powder on each level on the stairs and in the garage 6kg ABC and in the counter room 5kg co2. I'm also planning a wiring alarm system. There is also an emergency stairs. Is there anything special that I should install. Better 9l AFFF or 6kg ABC? As I say it's relatively new building so passive protection is not a problem. Thanks

I am getting conflicting information about fire extinguishers. Is this a legal requirement to have in a shop, we have between 3 up to may be 5 people in a shop. We sell candles and sometimes these are lit? We our staff are currently not trained on how to use a fire extinguisher so it is best to remove our current ones and that the best cause of action is to evacuate. There are concerns if the person using the extinguisher may have an accident therefore making the company liable. Any advise appreciated.

Hi we are kitting out a community centre with extinguishers after the renovation of the building. The cheapest extinguishers I could find where refurbished CO2 extinguishers. I think they miss the kitemark. Can we really use these, or does it have to be all new? Thanks

Hi I have operatives on a construction site who complete hot works, so in addition to the necessary fire points on every floor of the buildings they work on, they carry a small fire extinguisher. We have been asked this week if we have service stickers and checks for these portable extinguishers. Now, the extinguishers cost less than £10 so is it worth looking into getting them serviced annually or should we purchase a brand new extinguisher every year? Hi all, I run a small workshop and operate a MIG welder but ran out of shield gas half way through a job over Christmas. It was suggested that I could use a CO2 fire extinguisher as a source of gas to get the job finished, so obtained an out of date 5kg extinguisher and completed the job. Out of interest I weighed the cylinder to compare it against the markings on the cylinder and commissioning label.
