Fire Extinguishers

My company is opening a furniture warehouse which is 100 sq meters. We would like to know how many fire exstinguishers are required legally required for a site of this size.

I am confused. Water extinguishers can't be used near electricity, water mist can!?!?!? Water extinguishers can't be used on fat, water mist can?!?!? Why is water mist five times more expensive than a water extinguisher??

I have been working on risk assessments and driving at work, can you tell me if it is a requirement for cars used for driving at work to be equipped with a fire extinguisher

been contacted by a client who wants fire extinguishers put in to Shepard hut at a self catering camping venue its about 3m but 5m so i would say 1 1kg abc powder is fine but i know where something not having powder in enclosed spaces the fire regulation authority have told a other client hers are all wrong and is braking the law (witch she is not) so is this or am i gonna have put in a water and a co2 to cover all the risks and in such a small space or in the 1k abc fine

I am trying to find out about Fire blanket legislation. I am designing a product to incorporate the fabric of a fire blanket, but not the outer casing or bag. I understand that this would not then be allowed to be called a fire blanket, but wondered if it was legal

Ok i know about the legislation about fire extinguishers For any story in a building with a floor area equal to or less than 400 m² there should be a minimum of 2 x class 'A' extinguishers with a minimum combined fire rating of 26A. examples: floor area 130m2 .......... 2 x 13A extinguishers floor area 390m2 .......... 2 x 13A extinguishers But why do I see people with one 13a fire extinguisher and a co2 shouldn't they have two 13a fire extinguishers and a co2. Are these other companies not been told or am i missing something Property i visit is less than 400m2

Been having a discussion with a work colleague about the fire extinguisher maintenance stickers, do you stick them directly over the top of another company's sticker or stick them so you can still see the information of there maintenance, ie when the bottles due to have its next service, individual (person) who previously maintained it and the bottles history, thanks for your help

Hi, I was wondering if you might be able to offer some advice on what sort of fire extinguisher we should use in our workshop. It's not well ventilated so we were looking at something other than CO2. The main fire risks seem to be from use of flammable liquids (sparks reaching machining lubricants such as oils, and things like paint and the like), and a small risk of electrical fire if there is a major fault with the tools (milling machines/lathes). I was thinking that probably foam is best for our requirements in this case, or maybe powder, but was hoping you might offer some advice. Thanks Ian

I am looking for advice in regards to how to safely deal with a Lithium Polymer fire. I work for a Film Production company and we use a Lithium Polymer Batteries with our DJI Phantom. I was wondering if you could give me any advice for dealing Lithium Polymer fires? Such as the best fire extinguisher to use. I am aware that for the most part Lithium Polymer fires are difficult to extinguish and often the best practice would be to notify the correct authorities and controller any secondary fires. I had a chance to test the 1L Water Mist extinguisher at an event at my fire station, the results were very impressive and the unit did get a lot of attention after the demonstration. We set up a cooking oil fire demonstration in an approximately 120cm wide tray. Fire was fuelled by plant oil (called rape (!) in English I believe) with a bit of gasoline to boost ignition. Fire was allowed to burn for about 20 minutes, oil was boiling when we started testing. We are a housing association and a the corridor in a sheltered scheme(elderly residents) has 3 water fire extinguishers in the corridor. Is it a legal requirement to have these? as neither the residents or the staff are trained to use them and they would be unsuitable for use in the flats as they have electric cookers. We are just about to commence the installation of solar PV panels on top of a block of flats in Southwark SE16. These panels will cover most of the available roof space. In the daytime there will be constant DC generation going to inverters. If there is a fire, should we treat as an electrical fire, and what equipment should be used IE not water? Part of our business is moving passengers in people carriers which have Oxygen Cylinders on them. We therefore have 2kg powder fire extinguishers on the vehicles and we are not sure which legislation covers these, and what maintenance is required for them? There is some discussion between parts of the business as to whether they require and annual service similar to the large office extinguishers or whether a visual inspection is acceptable.
