Hi Team. Could you please help with a query re covering some commercial property 30 min fire door faces with a thin self adhesive sticky plastic. The company that make this are d-c-fix but unfortunately they do not specify if its suitable for fire doors except they say due to its 1mm thickness it will not affect the rating. I have spoken to the local Building Control but they only deal with alterations. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you Mark

We are replacing a fire door to a plant room at the top of a stair well. We believe the door is a 30 minute fire rated door with vision panel in. The client has asked to confirm what fire rated door is required and if a vision panel is required.

I have been asked by a residential client to retain some old stained glass panels and create FD30 glazed doors. I decided to sandwich 30min FR glass to the panels and fit them into an FD30 door blank 826 x 2040 with a section cut out of the middle, is there any reason by building control shouldn't pass it if I follow the detail shown under Fire Doors; Fire Resisting Glazing? I live in a Retirement Block of Flats in Sydenham London. Our House manager recently replace the normal Latches of 4 of the 5 Fire Doors in our main stairwell with Ball Catches. Poorly fitted. The only thing holding some of the doors closed is the Pressure of the Hydraulic closer. Neither Peverel or the London Fire Brigade see any fault with this. What can I do? With thanks John

We need to fit a fire door to where a lone worker is situated at the top of some stairs. In this situation should we be fitting a 30 minute or 60 minute fire door? I am unable to find a regulation that helps with this query.

If an older style nominal fire door only has 2 hinges, is it good practice to ask for 3 fire rated hinges to be fitted? Door has self-closer. Many thanks

So far I've not been able to find a clear answer in the product info on Safelincs website so I'm asking my question here: I need a fire exit door access device which can be opened with a key from the outside to give staff access into a building, however, I also need the external handle to lock again automatically after each use. We already have two doors with panic bolts and external access devices installed, but they are a significant security liability as staff regularly forget to turn the key again to lock the mechanism after they've opened it. There have been a number of occasions when I've arrived in the morning to discovered such doors having been left unlocked …

Hi a couple of questions if anyone can help... I've seen a fire door with an intumescent strip on the door AND the frame (same door) does one need to be removed or are they ok to be left. Both are in the right place and I'm assuming one was just left in situ when the other was put on but just wondered if they would conflict if there was a fire? Also - do metal fire doors have to have strips and seals? Thanks to anyone who replies

Hi, I have bought several fire doors about a month ago. These doors were fitted and seemed to open and close fine. However recently they have been catching against the frame. My question is do fire doors expand more often than normal doors under normal conditions? Or is this due to the fitting? Am I likely to experience this often with fire doors or not? I appreciate your time and look forward to hearing from you. Kind Regards, Mr Singh

Good morning, Would you be kind enough to give me some advice regarding the above withing a domestic property please? We had a fire door & intumescent fire strip fitted in our property when we had an extension done recently. The fire door was between our garage & our utility room as part of the new extension. The strip has been fitted between the framework before the fire door on the utility side of the door (leading into our garage) Several people withing the building trade & a Fireman have advised its incorrect & in wrong place? Sounds like it should either be withing the actual door itself or withing the framework on the …

I am moving into a student accommodation house and the landlord is refusing to put external locks on the bedroom doors as it is illegal. Is there any legislation against this as every other house that I've seen has had external locks on their doors. As it currently stands the bedroom door can be locked from the inside but can still be opened from the outside without the use of a key (which isn't right in itself). But should I want to leave my room and the house, the bedroom door must be left unlocked which surely cannot be the case?

At our church we have a domestic style kitchen with gas hob and oven - with two metal hatches in two walls and a single door entry. The door has a diamond plate attached to it which has a red border and on the plate it says it is a fire door. The building was constructed in the 1970s. I have three questions. 1. Is this a real fire door? 2. Is a fire door in this position necessary? 3. If we decided to alter this door and make it a stable door with the two halves sealed to prevent draught, would this compromise the door in any way? Many thanks for your help

Hello, I am changing a standard door to a fire door in a school. At present there is a rim lock on the door that enters the classroom. Please can you advise me if this is still suitable and if not, what lock i will have to put on the door to secure at night. I fear that in the event of fire a child can release the latch on the rim lock and prevent a safe exit. Your advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
