fire door thicker than casing

I looked at a care home today which had fire doors fitted into a standard 35mm rebated door casing but the fire door stood proud of the frame by 9mm is this legal ?

    Most probably not. From what you say this fire door installation would most likely fail to provide 30 minutes fire separation. The fire door face should be flush with the door frame. Check out BS 8214 : 2008 for fire door information and www.fdis.co.uk for information about fire door training and where to find a fire door inspector.
