We have 4no large open decks. Two decks have gangways to shore with internally lit exit signs. The other decks have stairs leading to the decks with gangways. Should the stairways be signed with maintained lights or could they be non maintained? As the ship is themed, to be from an age before electricity, as few modern intrusions need to be used as possible. This ship is open to the public. Regards Robin

I'm desperately trying to find out where I can get advice on the required lighting for fire safety in my flat. Here's the situation. I live in a shared flat with seven separate lockable rooms. The main space is where the rooms, kitchens, bathrooms and the entrance and fire exit all lead from. There is no marking on or above the closet door which leads to the fire escape to indicate that it is a fire escape (this is incidental and doesn't concern me though I don't know it it goes against requirements) The large main space (with dining area and living area, couches TV etc.) has extremely bright LED arrays (I assume) under circular covers about 9 inch in diameter. There are…

Everyone/Anyone - I could really use your advice to resolve a problem with our Easicheck self contained (EC1001) addressable emergency lighting system which has been going on for more than 6 years and no sign of resolution despite concerted effort - clearly I'm missing something significant that perhaps someone can point out to me. We've moved in to a brand new industrial estate office unit (1800 sq m) 6 years ago. And since then the error codes have been incessant and individual lights come on randomly. Before you ask....yes we replace lights and fittings as soon as they're identified faulty. We have also replace all the batteries this year because (in theory) the…

Is it only required in staff facilities and escape routes or is it required in the owners areas as well due to the staff working in these areas ?? Many Thanks

We have a guesthouse with about 30 non maintained emergency lights. Current setup is this: 8W T5 flourecent tubes with 2.4v 4Ah Ni Cd batteries. I'm considering this: 3.6v LED lights with 3.6V 1.8Ah Ni Cd batteries The actual power consumption of the lights isn't important as they are hardly ever on, but the energy usage when charging is as they are on charge 24/7 and I notice from our energy monitor that our background consumption is quite high. So my question to anybody who knows about this stuff is what is the difference in energy consumtion between these two batteries when on charge? Is it worth me changing the lights? Thanks!

We have recently installed an emergency lighting system with a central battery back-up. This provides battery back-up to a lighting distribution board serving a number of lighting circuits. If there is a mains electricity failure to the whole installation the inverter will provide the back-up supply, however if an MCB/RCBO trips on the inverter supplied DB there will be no back-up to that circuit. Is this satisfactory, if not how could this be rectified. Many Thanks

We've been repairing our emergency lighting within our London office. it needed widespread repairs and there are a few lights (i think 6) that the company we are using just cannot source. They have said that we have the required amount of emergency lighting so they are going to finish there. Where does the legislation stand on this? Are we ok if the emergency lighting is sufficient but 6 units aren't operational? I'd be very grateful for your input! Thank you.

Hello everyone I am new on here and hoping you will be able to help me out. I am after some advise. I have recently been given the task of looking after the emergency lighting in my place of work which is a large old factory, and 3x 3 story offices The HS manager has given me the headache of sorting it all out. We have never done any form of E / light testing in the factory on a regular intervals, and no records exsist of any E / lighting. Am I doing the right thing by getting a register of all the e lights in each area and giving them a number as a reference. Entering the number onto a plan like this. Then I have devised a simple tick sheet And al…

I am looking for a good reference to the practice of e/m lights having escape signs stuck on them , Escape signs being used as E/M lights. The building in question has minimal lighting in the 1sy place but what is there is also being obscured by stick on escape signs (that don’t comply anyway). Any hep appreciated

We currently have toilet cubicles which have gaps under and above the walls and door which allow light from the emergency lighting in the room to penetrate everywhere. We are about to block these gaps for additional privacy so each cubicle would be contained. Do we need to install additional emergency lighting in each cubicle? If you cannot help could you recommend where I can get an answer. Thank you kindly.

We are a small charity. We operate from one small building which was previously a small shop premises. The building comprises of a small front area where general office work takes place and where we initially see clients dropping into the centre for help. We also have two smaller rooms where we see clients in private. We have a bathroom and a longish passageway leading to the different rooms. We have a maximum of one paid worker and three volunteers locating the centre at any one time plus about two clients. We would be grateful if you could advice us of our emergency lighting requirements. Many thanks. Jules

We are a school with domestic properties for the housemasters attached to the boarding houses. It is obviously a requirement to have emergency lighting in the boarding house. But is it essential to have them in the housemasters property? Thanks Laura
