Carbon Monoxide Alarms

    Started by Guest Elle,

My 1 year old was messing around with the carbon monoxide alarm, 5 mins later it is beeping the low battery alert, not long after that it starts continuously beeping which indicates carbon monoxide detected. Took the batteries out and it stopped, but 10 minutes later it started again. Norbert has came and said it was fluctuating between 0-1. Is this a cause for concern? No idea how old the detector is as it was brought to my house by my mother in law. Bought a new alarm just to double check but not sure if it's safe to be here with my 1 year old?

We have flues to gas boilers in the common area riser cupboards in our block of flats. The flues lead to the boilers within the flats. Do we need to install carbon monoxide detectors in the common areas where the cupboards are located? Thanks.

  3. Is the following situation possible? We are in a 5 story residential building. it's cold, winter time, low atmospheric pressure. There are three more adjacent buildings forming a blind inner court, plan surface 2 x 10 meters, about 20 meters high. On the inner court walls there are many gas water heater vents, one or more or them are producing carbon monoxide. The question is: can the carbon monoxide be transported in the third, fourth and fifth floor by ajar windows on the inner court? In the answer is yes, can the carbon monoxide reach dangerous concentrations inside the apartments?

We were woken last night by the sound of our CO alarm going off. It really shook us! We eventually took the batteries out and rang the gas board this morning. They immediately sent an engineer and tested for CO but could find nothing. Just a bad product or what? We do have gas heating but it was switched off. Anybody experienced anything similar?

Hi. i was woken up at 5am by my Smoke/CO alarm beeping 3 times then completely stopping. It is a Kidde model and didn’t say either “fire” or “CO detected”, it was literally just 3 beeps. I have since tested the alarm using the test button and it works fine. It has made no noise since. Should I be worried? Thanks

On Christmas Eve my CO alarm went off, even though we did not have the heating on. Is there any way to test if the CO alarm is working correctly? In the end I had to take out the batteries to stop the noise. It did scare us, though!

So I’ve lived in this flat for a year and a half and only had my CO alarm go off once randomly and never again until yesterday. Yesterday and today it will beep a few times (sometimes 3, sometimes 4 or 5) and will continue beeping for a few minutes then stopping for hours before starting to beep again? I have tried searching why this might be because everywhere I’ve looked said if it stops itself then it can’t be detecting CO because otherwise it would keep beeping? What is causing this? What can I do?

Can anyone recommend a long life battery carbon monoxide detector that doesn't flash every minute or so?

On my unit; the High Level indicator periodically flashes; as if it is going through a self check cycle: but I cannot see any information regarding this in the manual. Also, the colour it is flashing is red, about every 60 secs. Any ideas ?

  10. Hi Mt alarm went off 4 beeps at 9pm stooped.. went off around 11pm then last time was at 430am. Date says 2015. I live in an apt and asked my neighbors if they had this happen they said no. Everything is turned off we are fighting a cockroach infestation because of unit upstairs could this be the reason? We don't clean the alarm because we didn't know we had to do it.. each unit has own furnace in tbe units which is locked and landlord hasn't serviced since 2020. What could this mean? We called fire department but waiting for them so in mean time since were waiting outside I figured I'd ask on here. Thank you

New carbon monoxide alarm: HSA/BC/RF10-PRO. No RED light appears when first pressing test/silence button. Have tried resetting but to no avail.

Hi, We had been using some paint stripper for a DIY job in our kitchen which i admit seemed quite strong in terms of fumes. I heard the Fireangel CO9B alarm beep times then a break then again and soo on. I then hit the test button and it stopped. I opened the windows and back door to ventilate breifly and then closed the door. Around 20 mins later the alarm sounded again. At this point i open all the doors and windows and left the building to ensure i was breathing fresh air. I returned to the building after some time and left the doors and windows open for around 2/3 hours. Eventually i shut the doors again and once again the alarm sounded. I have recently ha…

I have fire angel CO-9d at home. From yesterday alarm is going crazy in the night and sometimes during the days. It is beeping 4 times but ppm is showing 0 , and there is no battery symbol indicating low battery. Today it beeped again and symbol of spanner appears but I didn’t touch it. Sometimes it is beeping 4 times and the peak symbol is showing but again ppm is still 0. What I can do with it? It was beeping all night but 0 ppm so nothing was detected. Also I don’t have gas at home, everything is electrical. The alarm is still in the same place since I live in the apartment from 4 years. Please let me know what I can do with it

I bought a Fireangel carbon monoxide alarm, did the reset test to test the alarm. It flashed every second then every few minutes after this, but now the power button is not flashing at all.Is it not supposed to be on at all times?

Our CM tester was beeping loudly so I changed the batteries and now it’s stopped. Does that mean it’s actually ok? It’s 2:30am but don’t know if we should get the kids out the house or go back to sleep???

  16. Hi, Last week our carbon monoxide detector was going off after shower and stopped after we re-plugged. Immediately we bought a new digital detector and checked, everything is perfect. Again from yesterday after shower the old detector is beeping (It will stop if we unplug and plug again), and the new one is not going off. Our land lord said it is fine as the new one is not going off. We are worried anyway. Please advice in this regard.

Seems like there are some people here who know answers! My old CO alarm expired back in December, so bought a new one - an Ei207. All was fine (at least I think) for the first three weeks, then on New Year's Eve it beeped, once, in teh middle of the night, and again a few hours later. Nothing more. Same the next night. Two beeps, three or four hours apart, then nothing. Nothing for a week, then a week later, same thing. Random beep in the middle of the night. Took batteries out, put batteries in. Hour later, starts giving me a random beep again, but to no pattern. 2 minutes, then 40 seconds, back to a minute... take batteries out. Aico website says "regular si…

Last night, I was woken up by my carbon monoxide alarm. It was three beeps after five seconds I think. The reason I didn't call anyone was the circumstances didn't really add up. I have two alarms, an old one and a newer model. The newer model is in the kitchen where my gas cooker and my boiler is and this wasn't the one going off. It works fine, I tested it. The older one that has been sitting on my dresser in the living room was the one going off. The heating wasn't on, there's nothing that I can think of as to why it's going off. I opened the window nearby and eventually, it went off. This morning, I closed the window and placed the alarm back …

  19. Hi, My co alarm just went off, and it is the co warning. I called the emergency gas number. But even when I take it away from the flat, it's still continuing to beep, even after 30 minutes. It's about 3 years old, it went off after we ran a bath. The boiler does need servicing. I also don't feel ill at all, and people smoke in the house. The boiler is the only gas appliance in our flat. I don't know, I still rang just to make sure and I'm sitting outside the door in our stairwell but could it be that it's a false positive? The gas engineer said about an hour till they could get someone out and I've opened the window that's directly adjacent to the boiler as well as s…

Hi, My carbon monoxide alarm went off 2 nights ago with 4 chirps every 10/15 seconds ,scared the life out of me but my son looked at it and said the expiry date was for August 2020 he tested it and it stopped and it said it would reset it for 24 hours ,and it went of again the next night but it was 22 hrs not 24 with the same pattern and so we reset it again so at this stage we think it might be battery as amber light is on and off which means there is a fault in it,now tonight is third night and 24 hours nearly up and a continuous green light flashes every 60 seconds so is this okay again ,has it maybe detected a gas leek or what as I am confused needless to say I…

I have a Deta 1121 Mains Operated Fixed Carbon Monoxide Alarm which has just started beeping 3 times. I have checked the manual and this is because it is at the end of life. The alarm was in a new build house so I have no idea who installed it therefore, I have no idea who should I contact in order to replace the unit. is this the sort of thing that I should contact a standard electrician about? thanks ickle

  22. Started by Nemo2000,

I'm replacing all my old life-expired CO alarms with new Kidde 5CO models. Instead of just one on the first-floor landing, I intend to have one each in the two main bedrooms (the third is used as a home-office). Guidance about bedrooms seems very contradictory between placing at 'sleeping height' or higher up on a wall close to the ceiling. Assuming the former, then where is best in a room where there is a big window in one (outside) wall, a door in one corner of the opposite (internal) wall and the flue from the downstairs back-boiler in the other corner, with the bed located against the internal cross-wall between the window wall and the door (if you see what I mea…

I have had a boiler fitted in my loft. The loft is boarded out and used as a room where someone . We are having a rewire now (it's a 1930s house) and not sure where is best place for hard wired carbon monoxide tester. Electricians says it can go on the landing under the oft but we are worried this would not dedect the carbon monoxide as it would rise? Can you advise where would be the best palce to put this detector?
