i have the long lease of a flat. the freeholder is saying that due to new regulations, i have to pay £600 so as to have a fire alarm in my kitchen. This will be connected to the system for the whole building which comprises 3 flats. at present I have a fire alarm in my hallway which is immediately off my fairly small kitchen. The alarm is probably about 3ft away from the kitchen. The alarm is very sensitive. Please let me know if new regulations require me to install a fire alarm in the hallway. If so, can I purchase one myself which will certainly cost nothing like £600..

Hi, I am looking for some credible evidence on whether AFD systems are maintained by occupants of private residences. Installing them is a Building Regs requirement, but maintaining them appears not to be. Has anyone produced any research on this?

Good morning, I'm a property managing agent and have received a number of quotes for installing a conventional alarm system in the corridors and stairwells of a modern residential development. However, none of them agree about the number of zones required. I would have thought that there should be one zone per floor and another zone for the stairwell/entrance lobby. Is there any guidance available on this, please? Cheers

Hello, I am currently challenged at work with the fire alarm going off when the haze (like smoke) is released for media production purposes. We are seriously considering stopping this but it will affect the media production effect during events. My question is 'do event venues such as the O2 and other major production event venues use fire larm systems such as fire beams' Please advise.

Hello, we are jusr about to move into a refurbished unit of offices with a small warehouse. The owner has installed linked fire alarms, the sort that would be fitted in a domestic premises. We have just been told by a fire safety company that this is not enough by law and we need a fire alarm system with the break glass units. The wiring also needs to be fire resistant. Is this correct?

One of our wall mounted red boxes (break glass) has had the glass pulled down slightly while our alarm went off the other morning. It has revealed a line of black and yellow stripes. I would like to know how I can reset this, so it it just the white glass screen again? I have been unable to find a manual to attempt it myself, and I have run out of ideas as how to push it back up? Daniel
