Many schools and community halls have storage cupboards under the main stage-I was always told that storing combustibles under a stage is a no-no. Has anyone else encountered this issue?

Are you able to point me in the right direction towards any regulations specifically governing whether online Fire Marshal/Warden training is suitable for use in schools. I look forward to your response. Kind regards Emma

Hi There i'm hoping someone can help, I am looking to clarify the exact fire regulations for fabric covered noticeboards in schools / public buildings, through RIBA they have been stating that noticeboards need to be Class O fire rated but I thing it needs to be Class 1 as there are escape area's in all school corridors. Also as noticeboards have card and paper stapled to them, what does this do to the fire rating?? Also would noticeboards be under fixed or loose furniture and also as these have fabric glued to them, is the fire rating under drapes and curtains

Hello team, I'm new to this forum and would be grateful for some advise or to be pointed in the right direction. I work in an academy (Secondary school) with 900 students on roll. Due to the number of false alarms of late the following question has been asked. Is it acceptable to silence the alarm and carry out alarm verification/verifying before signalling a full evacuation? I understand it is acceptable for trained persons to investigate the presence of a true fire; but should a evacuation take place first or could some kind of 'Stay put' policy be put in place? Thank you in advance for any help you can give. Kind regards, Chris.

Hi there, I am in the process of setting up a preschool and have fire doors with glass panels leading to the garden area where children will be. Can we put a screening on this to ensure people are unable to see the children in the garden for obvious safeguarding reasons from Ofsted? Also, we have replaced a lower handle on the double doors that lead to the exit with a high handle so that children cannot reach to escape and have popped a tiny alarm panel that alerts us to people coming through into that space as we cannot lock it, however in the centre we are setting up the preschool in I have noticed that one of the double doors is always locked at the top and bottom -…

I am seeking some advice regarding fire drills in a secondary school Current practice is: Alarm sounds Teachers lead students out of classes to assembly points All other staff evacuate immediately Except for attendance officer who stays put to print out 32 form group registers. These are then circulated to form group teachers to take roll call. My contention is that it is a great risk for the attendance officer NOT to be able to immediately evacuate. It typically will take a minimum of 5 mins for the registers to print. I would greatly appreciate expert advice as to whether this practice is safe and in line with best practice in other s…

Following a recent fire risk assessment we require a 2nd opinion please, within our old local school we have a three storey building with a central and protected but open staircase (1.3 metre wide) leading to/from each floor, between the ground and first there is a half level with landing leading to offices and an alternative means of escape via a staircase (approx 1 metre wide) and to ultimate safety (open air), this is also a protected route. At the first floor and second floor levels the classes/rooms open up onto the landings there are no fire lobbies and travel distances are above maximum distances, there is what appears to be an L1 fire alarm system that is fully ma…

Hello we are a school that was built in 1995. We recently had a fire risk assessment and as a result they have recommended that we install 3 more sets of fire doors in the part of the building that was built in 1995. Has the law changed in relation to fire doors since 1995 and that is the reason that we have been advised to upgrade?
