hi there i have 5 doors in one of our buildings with build up on and the fire officer has sad this isnt suttable any more unless i can get them certificated to say they are surfisent ? can you help?

You cannot have them certificated when you purchase fire doors you need to buy certified fire door sets which will have all the documentation to prove they are. Who conducted the fire risk assessment for this building s/he should be able to advise you.

The assessor should be looking at other factors as well as the door (the overall package).

The door itself and the door frame (the door set) along with:

• Hinges
  
• Handles and other ironmongery
  
• Signage
  
• Vision Panels (if fitted)
  
• Seals Intumiscen and smoke
  
• Inspection and Maintenance
  
• Locks
  
• Door Closers
  
• The installation with the surrounding structure and any seals used depending on the surrounding structure.

  Generally speaking a good Risk Assessor should be able to justify and advise on any comments he has made in his assessment and in turn direct you in the correct direction to action any of his findings. If based in the South West let me know if you need more assistance.

Have just had original Georgian doors refurbed to FD30 but need them certified. Does someone provide this service around the N1 0NG (King cross) area? Would appreciate a number/email address. Thank you

Not possissible upgraded doors cannot be certified they are classed as nominal fire doors but the person carrying out the work could provide a guarantee that the doors had been upgraded by a recognised method which could be acceptable by inspecting officers.

Certified fire doors are done at the manufacturing stage, by a testing house, testing three to the appropriate standard and if they pass, all fire doors manufactured to that specification are certified to that standard.
