I have to install a fire alarm in a converted large house over 4 floors. There are 7 self contained flats in the house.

please confirm which system that is suitable. I think it requires smoke detectors in the communal areas with call points and heat detectors within each flat, is this correct

Fire detection and alarm system to BS 5839 part 6 • Grade A: LD2 coverage in the common areas and a heat alarm in each flat in the room/lobby opening onto the escape route (interlinked); and a Grade D: LD3 coverage in each flat (non-interlinked smoke alarm in the room/lobby opening onto the escape route) to protect the sleeping occupants of the flat. If manual call points are required then they should be located in the escape route out of the premises.

Must the interlinked heat alarm in the lobby of each flat be hardwired or can it be wireless? Is it legally required to have the aforesaid heat sensor?

Any help would be appreciated. 

Ideally it should be hard wired but it is not legally required but a smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector is required by The Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm (England) Regulations 2015 .

Hi there I have been advised that due to the fact that my flat is in a heritage property of 5 flats a wireless system is advised. A Grade D M/LD2 system with smoke detection in common area and heat detector in each flat and in the communal area. A grade D LD3 system is required in each flat. Could you give me rough idea  on costs please.

You can price up the materials on Safelincs website: https://www.safelincs.co.uk/radio-interlinked-smoke-alarms/ , it's then labour for fixing on top.

With Grade D wireless kit each detector still needs a local mains supply (often the lighting circuit) , just no cable to link them all. If you want 99% wirefree then you need a Grade C system like Illumino Ignis's Premsafe or one of the many commercial standard Grade A systems out there (Hyfire, EDA, EMS, etc)
