May 26, 20179 yr comment_10225 How long does the fire alarm need to sound for the weekly test? We have 2 alarm systems, the first quick (literally a beep and then its off). Mine is longer, to the point that some people complain. A colleague seems to think it should be between 30-60 seconds. That’s unacceptable for the office. To my understanding it needs to be heard so would have thought between 3-5 seconds of sounding is sufficient. Report
May 26, 20179 yr comment_10226 The weekly test has two functions, first to ensure the fire alarm is working and the second to ensure everybody can hear the alarm when operated, consequently 3-5 seconds or maybe a little longer, should be adequate, depending on occupancy. Report
May 26, 20179 yr comment_10229 It should only last roughly 5 seconds. If it's lasting longer then the site needs to train it's staff to use the walk test function on the system (which automatically silences the alarm sounders after a few seconds) or if the panel is too basic to support this it needs to use two people for testing.
