What locks for FD60 communal riser doors?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

We have some communal risers which contain water meters along with isolation valves. There is also a sprinkler isolation valve there as well.

The current locks is a eurocylinder type with key on the external side and thumb turn on the internal side. There is literally no way to lock yourself in the cupboard (maybe 200mm depth with various things poking out) unless you're a small child and someone deliberately locks you in, so I'm not sure how much of a requirement the thumb turn really is.

We were told that if the fire brigade attended they may need to break into the riser to deal with the sprinkler system and/or the get to the isolation valve(s). The solution on the face of it seemed to be an FB key deadlock, but this would not have the thumb turn and also these don't seem to be FD60 compatible.

Does anyone have a suggested solution to this?

Thanks,

Frank

How old is the building? Why not ask the fire service - they may be happy as it is and if not will give you some pointers as to what would suit. Whilst not responsible for your FRA they are still permitted and indeed have a statutory duty to provide certain fire safety advice

Thank you for the advice Anthony. I popped into the local fire station and they mentioned a lock type called "Gerda", which looks like it will do what we want.
