Sprinklers

Can you tell me if sprinklers are demanded by fire code for warehouses storing canned goods (specifically pickles and other vegetables) where the contents are at least 30% water. The canned goods are stored on wooden pallets 3 or 4 pallets high.

The other day I came across a new situation for me - nearly all the glass bulb type sprinkler heads in a plant, had discoloured liquid in the bulbs - it was completely clear. The plant is only 8 years old and there seemed to be no special reason, like strong sunlight or UV light or anything unusual. I noticed this situation in the offices. The factory roof sprinklers were too high to see if this had occured with them as well. What has happened? Do you think these sprinkler heads are still OK? I'd be pleased to receive your thoughts on this unusual state of affairs. The plant is a clean assembly plant for plastic ball pens. Best regards Robin

Hello. The Building Inspector has suggested that we may need a Sprinkler system in our house. It is a terraced house and we are building a rear extension and mansard. Could you please direct me to any legislation where I can see whether we have to install a system, or perhaps there are simple guidelines to residential houses which say when you should have one and when you don't need to - ie, perhaps number of bedrooms etc. Thanks so much for your help. I was wondering if by fitting sprinklers I can convert a loft into a habitable room and access it through the open plan leaving/kitchen area which is located on the first floor of a purpose built 1920's two storey block. The floor of the loft would be the only floor above 4.5 m and the open plan leaving/kitchen area below has a direct access to an external stair on the first floor and a door leading to a protected stair going down to the entrance on the ground floor. I have been told that by fitting sprinklers I would not need to compartmentalise the escape route from the loft, could you advise me on this?
