Can a fire blanket be repacked?

Featured Replies

I've just used an old fire blanket to extinguish my barbeque (gave it up as a bad job, as it starts raining). Should I throw the blanket away or can it be used again?

Some types of fire blankets can be reused and you will need to read the manufacturers instructions on the product or contact the manufacturer. If you try and reuse a fire blanket that has some damage to it you may find that much of the fire resistance has been removed making it obsolete, in cases such as these it should be replaced with a new one. You will also have difficulty in repacking them and the cost is not prohibitive so in many cases the best option is to replace it.

As Tom says, some you can, some you can't. The problems arise from any trapped particles in the blanket, which you may not notice or if the blanket has a fire retardant on it. Safelincs fire blankest start at just over £7, no contest.
