Guest Vera
I am a tenant. We only have a blanket not an extinguisher in the flat / house which worries me, are there any regulations. Also I was told I should not have a fire ladder because the exit is via the main entrance. Obviously, fire ladders are only used in an emergency. Why should such a ladder be forbidden. Can I convince the agent or show them any written regulations? thank you
AnthonyB
Ladders are not (normally) accepted as a means of escape and if the premises are compliant with the one stair and exit (which they probably will be) then that is the end of the landlord and agent's responsibility. There is nothing stopping you buying your own if you are really worried. https://www.safelincs.co.uk/fire-escape-ladders/
Isabellah
According to the International Fire Code (IRC), ladders serve as a “means of egress” from buildings, rooms, and mezzanines. Importantly, fire escape stairs and balconies shall be capable of supporting the dead weight plus a live weight of not less than 100 pounds per square foot
