Uncertified fire door manufacture

Featured Replies

Hi,

I think I know the answer to this one, but I’m after another opinion.

As a joinery manufacturer, can I manufacture fire doors, even if I am not certified by certifire/qmark/etc?

Can i just follow the door blank manufacturers field of application specifications, ie. glazing system, intumescent strips, specified ironmongery, to the letter, and offer this as a nominal fire door?

TIA

I know the final door won’t be certified under any scheme, but will this please the gods of fire door regulations? I will of course supply an OandM pack, and any fire certificates supplied with the blank, glass, seals, ironmongery.

No you can't make a fire door and offer it as 'Nominal or Notional'.  If you put a fire door on the market it must have evidence of fire resistance performance but that's not a problem because you can use the evidence provided by the door blank manufacturer.  Clearly, you have a duty to fabricate and install the door in strict accordance with the door blank manufacturer's technical manual and fire resistance assessment report.
