Fire stop training

Featured Replies

Hi I'm a carpenter and have recently won a contract up grading fire doors and I have also been asked to do small bits of fire stopping.. mainly in riser cupboards... do I need a qualification to do this? A fire inspector has gone in first and pointed out the bits that need doing with a photo and brief explanation. So am I ok just to go ahead?

Thanks chudy

I cannot see why not the fire inspector will take the responsibility and I suspect he/she will be calling you back if you do not get it right.

You should be trained and competent to undertake fire stopping works. You do not have to be 3rd party accredited. The fire stopping materials manufacturer will have all of the correct installation information if you request it or visit the website. It is not a simple job and there are many different approved details for each application required. Many times when I inspect fire stopping carried out by untrained installers it is non-compliant and has to be rectified.
