I am responsible for 6 retail showrooms. 4 of the showrooms have 2 staff, 1 has 3 and the other has 4.
I want t ensure that we comply with the law regarding Emergency lighting, not all our showrooms have it so want to see what we are required to do, after a Fire safety inspection it was advised that all staff carry a light around with them

Depends on the size and layout of the premises. Small 1 or 2 room lock up shop/small office type premises can have torches (ideally those you  plug in and automatically light up when the power fails, they aren't too expensive and will still cover you if there is a local lighting circuit failure as whilst they are plugged into the ring circuit the units invariably are also night lights so will light up due to the darkness).

Anything bigger and you may have to consider 'proper' emergency lighting.

Saying staff should walk around with a torch all day is plainly daft. Most phones have torches or can have free torch apps added anyway.
