Do I need to replace the base of a wired smoke alarm

Hi,

I'm about to replace our smoke alarms and I believe they are the Ei141. As they are over 10 years old do I need to replace the base as well as the detector?

I've looked at https://www.safelincs.co.uk/why-should-smoke-alarms-be-replaced-after-ten-years/ but it does not answer my question.

Hi Darren,

As long as the base plate is in good condition and your wiring is sound you can just buy the replacement head.

What is the reason the Aico bases also have an expiry date on them?

Kush, the post you replied to was made +8 years ago, Harry has not posted since 2020, and where did he say that Aico bases have an expiry date?
