October 2, 20178 yr comment_10871 Hi, I'm about to replace our smoke alarms and I believe they are the Ei141. As they are over 10 years old do I need to replace the base as well as the detector? I've looked at https://www.safelincs.co.uk/why-should-smoke-alarms-be-replaced-after-ten-years/ but it does not answer my question. Thanks Darren Report
October 2, 20178 yr comment_10872 Hi Darren, As long as the base plate is in good condition and your wiring is sound you can just buy the replacement head. Harry Report

January 14Jan 14 comment_55484 Kush, the post you replied to was made 8+ years ago, Darren posed his question/thanks on the same day and has never been back since. Harry has not posted since 2020, best NOT to reply to old posts (On any forum) Kush, out of curiosity, I am trying to understand why you say that Aico bases have an expiry date? Report

I think it's because the radio link bases also contain a battery. It's something which is often overlooked on all the sites when they state you can just swap the head. Report
