Can I veneer a fire door and stay in regulation?

Featured Replies

Hi
I am after advice regarding veneering a 30 min fire door and still keeping within the fire regulations. Please can you advise on this?

Regards

John

Hi John,

FD30 flush door cores are often veneered with real wood veneers and hardwood lipped on the edges by joinery companies. Just what you can do depends on the type of door core you have, if you can find out who manufactured the core (eg: Halspan or Flamebreak etc) you may be able to obtain the product instruction manual and then work within the scope of that document.

I assume you will gluing the veneer and nothing will be penetrating the fire door therefore I cannot see how you would be reducing the fire resistance of the door.
