Air vents in cross corridor doors to lift lobby area.

Featured Replies

Hi (Not letting my upload photo)

We have a cross corridor double door set leading from a large lobby area on ground floor into a lift lobby of 4 lifts with a rear exit staircase (Fire door to staircase). There is also a fire exit at the rear of the lifts leading outside via push bar. (33 story building)

There has been an air pressure problem in the past and someone has installed 4 x fire rated vents (Not smoke) to relieve the air pressure which it has done. A fire strategy has come back and says they need to be smoke. The main lobby upon a fire alarm has automatic doors that open outside.

The question is the whether to replace, remediate or a risk based on the info I have provided. I hope I have been clear and ill try again to upload photo but its not letting me. Would 4 x electronic smoke vents would be required as the best option for this?

Thanks,

Stu

Without seeing the site and layout it's difficult to be definitive, but usually doors to protect means of escape require to be smoke dampers so heat activated fire dampers would not operate quickly enough to protect the route and combined smoke/heat dampers activated by smoke detection would commonly be required unless there is some form of smoke control feature negating it (e.g. pressure differential system)
