August 4, 2025Aug 4 comment_51591 Hi I know british standards state alarms should be tested weekly. My question is two fold, as I understand it BS are not a legal requirement would you agree? But a good idea to follow like HS guidance. The other question is the weekly test, do they actually need to be weekly. If a building is used infrequently could the fire alarm test be say monthly? August 6, 2025Aug 6 comment_51620 British standards are not a legal requirement, however, the man with the curly wig may have some serious concerns if you do not follow them. If a building is unoccupied for any length of time, there is nothing wrong with reducing all the building inspection regime (along with the Alarm testing) as long as prior to the reoccupation all testing is completed, this reduced maintenance should be written in the maintenance instructions for the building. Don't forget that if the building is unoccupied the maintenance may reduce but the chances of arson may increase. Report
August 6, 2025Aug 6 comment_51649 Empty buildings could adopt a risk based approach to testing, otherwise there would need to be a dedicated technical & statistical case to justify changes (like Sainsbury did when justifying a change in stores from weekly to monthly testing) Report
