I have noticed some comments online that certified hardware such as hinges are not required on fire doors and any plain hinges are suitable, I just want to clear this in my head.

 

From what I understand, certificates like CF218 specify that hinges must be CE Marked according to EN1935 for use on 30-minute fire door assemblies. Doesn’t this make CE Marked hinges mandatory, rather than just a recommendation?

You will find that third party certificated fire door leaves specify that CE or UKCA hinges to BSEN1935 are a requirement and often certificated too.  Doors fabricated from fire door blanks don't always specify TPC but might require CE or UKCA marking. Building Regulations Approved Document B (appendix C) requires hinges to have a minimum melting point of 800 deg C.   https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/fire-safety-approved-document-b  

A new doorset should have the correct marked and certified hinges - however many older existing fire doors predate the existence of such schemes and requirements and will have unmarked hinges. If these are of the correct rating for the weight of door and off high temperature melting point, which if the originals they should be, them there is no retrospective replacement requirement, just like the whole doorset, if still in good working condition need not be certified if a fire doorset to the standard at the time of installation and this is acceptable to the FRA.
