Hi debbie what was the conclusion from contacting trading standards?

I was waiting "a few days" just to make sure.  Debbie asked the question 7 months ago, she only made the two posts and has never been back since. I can only suggest you contact your local trading standards office to see if they can help.

  2. As you know the 1111 is obsolete and you will have to buy a new smoke alarm, mains smoke alarms come with suitable base, so yes, you will have to change it, if you have any other Deta smoke alarms, it would be wise to change those too, and get all of the same brand.

Safelincs supply a variety of mains smoke alarms Click here

  3.  You should press and hold the test/silence button for 4 seconds, it should then "chirp" 4 times and the red LED should flash for upto 30 seconds, after this it will revert back to normal.  If you have just purchased it and it does not do as suggested, take it back from where you got it.

My gas furnace stopped working due to a bad draft inducer yesterday. I had a tech out, but the furnace stopped working again a few hours later. As a stop gap measure, I boiled water on my gas stove overnight, waking up every two hours to refill the pot. At 4:17 am, my Kidde Carbon Monoxide detector went off. I turned off the thermostat (to stop the draft inducer from trying to run) and shut off the stove. The alarm stopped going off. I have left the building, but should I worry about the safety of furnace technicians today, and myself and my dogs tonight?

I am especially worried because many symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning resemble the symptoms of poor sleep followed by being woken by an alarm in the early morning.

    Please advise.

Ask the technician to check for carbon monoxide for you.

  5. I would suggest you install a carbon monoxide alarm in accordance with its instructions close to the boiler, and an optical smoke alarm in the loft as a minimum, better still use interlinked devices and have their counterparts on the landing, as you may not hear them if they are in the loft.

  6. If all the boxes are mounted "Nose to tail" I can see this causing a problem as some "boxes" need to be reset by inserting a key in the bottom, so yes they should not be mounted in such a manor.

As for having the override interlinked to the fire alarm, if the override was needed but not an emergency then what would be the point of setting off the fire alarm to release a door?

Red/green colour blindness is the reason each "box" has written on it what it is for. The only colour blind person I have met could read quite easily.
