Replacing EI151 with EI141 - extra blue wire

I'm replacing my EI151 with EI141 but the 141 has it's own replaceable battery rather than a built in rechargeable one.  So what do I do with the blue battery wire I have from the old 151?

Hi Phil

The 150 and 140 series alarms have different bases, hence the need for rewiring. We always recommend that such work is undertaken by an electrician or other qualified, competent person due to the dangers involved with mains electricity and the need to ensure the alarms are powered as necessary after installation.

Assuming your system was installed with wiring coloured according to accepted standards, you should find two blue wires - one neutral wire from your electrical installation which must be connected to the new base for the Ei141, and a short length looped from and back into the old Ei151 plug. This short length is used to disconnect the lithium battery when the plug is removed and can be discarded as it is no longer necessary for your new alarm.

[Guest Conversion from Ei150 to E]

Hello! I have an Ei150 mains only smoke alarm that is being replaced with an Ei3016 mains only. On the Ei150 there are 4 wires, brown(live), white (interconne ted), blue (neutral) and another extra blue wire. These are all fitted into a small socket which is fitted into the alarm itself. The extra blue wire appears to have not been needed to operate the alarm but is part of the small socket.

The new alarm needs to be rewired with neutral (blue), interconnected (white) and live (brown). What should be done with the spare blue wire please? 🤔

Put the spare wire in a wago connector (or similar) or a single "choc bloc" Do NOT wrap it in insulation tape because as time goes by the tape will become detached.
