Fire door frame in staircase

Featured Replies

Hi,

I’ve been asked to replace an existing door and frame to a fire door, and frame.
I’m just wondering would the frame be ok fitting into the same position onto the staircase like the picture. Or cut into the staircase so the frame sits down tight to the step.

thanks

Its an unusual situation, having a door on the stairs is not normal and I would see if there is a more suitable location for the door, without a physical inspection it is impossible to give a definitive answer.

The stairs run into the living room with no corridor so no where else for it go, but the council have said a fire door is needed on there. Would strips routered into the door work as they would sit tight into the stairs string

I very much doubt a fire door has been tested in in such a configuration so it is impossible to predict how it is likely to behave in a fire. You could employ the services of a fire door inspector but other than that I am unable to help you.
