Signs on the outside of fire exits

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm wondering if you would know the answer to this. We work in a building where many people (deliveries, etc) mistakenly come to the fire-exit door, knock and wait. There's no handle but a hit-pad and we're a bit concerned we might end up damaging the mechanism through repeated non-essential use.

We'd like to put a fire-exit sign on the outside but aren't sure if there are any rules we need keep to (size, design, etc) as it isn't to inform people inside of an escape route but to inform people outside they're at the wrong door. It would be nice to be able to use something a little more discreet like a brass plaque as it is an old building but we are not sure if that is allowed.

Why not post a sign that says something like

"The entrance door is around the corner to your right"

Posting a notice that merely says "Fire Exit" does not tell them where they should be.
