March 5Mar 5 comment_55770 Hi all, Does anyone know in what instance it is recommended/required that a general needs block of flats has fire alarm monitoring? We manage many blocks with alarms, but only two have alarm monitoring systems, neither are HRBs or present any unusual risks to my knowledge. The fire strategies do not mention alarm monitoring. Thanks in advance Report
March 9Mar 9 comment_55778 It's not a legal requirement in England, also you would need to check your fire service's automatic fire alarm policy - whilst some would attend an 'alarm sounding' call from a remote monitoring system, others would not and would require confirmation of fire first. One assumes these are simultaneous evac blocks with systems in common areas and flats otherwise the fire alarm isn't even required (just detection to open smoke vents). A lot of blocks are spending leaseholders money on unnecessary fire alarms and unnecessary fire door replacements! Report
