Guest John
The premises is occupied as a fast food restaurant on the ground floor with 7 residential units above in a High Street location. The building is 4 storeys and has wooden floors throughout. The building inspector is asking for manual fire alarm call points to be disabled in the residential areas on the grounds that the are often activated by mistake and to rely on smoke alarms. This seems bonkers to me. Thoughts?
AnthonyB
Building Inspector? Is the premises being fitted out and subject to a Building Regulations application? If not they shouldn't be involved. Also, unless there is a known issue with malicious use of call points there are no grounds to even consider them being removed - and even then it's not the first step. I'd be minded to ignore them, they don't hold the liability for the premises (or disabled them on the panel until their involvement is over & then put them back on!)
