Deta Model 1163 Triggering Randomly

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a Deta Model 1163 that keeps getting triggered for no apparent reason. Initially, I thought it was false positives, so left it as is. But it has been triggered three times in the last 24 hours. After two triggers in 12 hours, I thought it could be a battery change and changed the 9v. About two hours later, it's been triggered again. Therefore I have no real idea what it could be.

Check the age of the alarm, it only has a life expectancy of 10 years, you could try cleaning it with a vacuum cleaner, also take the battery out, disconnect it from the mains and press and hold the test button for at least 20 seconds (it may make some odd noises) Then put it all back.

If the above does not solve your problem (and it is less than 10 years old) as there are no user serviceable parts, you have no option other than to change it. I would also suggest that you may want to change brands, but if you do this you will have to change ALL your smoke and or CO alarms, as you can not mix and match brands. If so, I would suggest you Click here

Hi

I also have a deta 1163 smoke alarm, l have tried everything you have say but still keeps going off. The red light on top just keeps flashing.

As I said last year, if you have tried all that I have mentioned, as there are no user serviceable parts, you have no option other than to change it. I would also suggest that you may want to change brands, but if you do this you will have to change ALL your smoke and or CO alarms, as you should not mix and match brands. If so, I would suggest you Click here

I hate to be a parrot, but as above, same type of alarm and it is randomly triggering. I have 4 alarms total, one being a heat alarm in the kitchen. They're less than 4 years old, and I'm begreudhed to have to change them out. Is there an easy way to tell which alarm is actually triggering? I don't want to have to replace all 4 if I don't have to 🤣

To find which smoke alarm activated first look at each alarm in turn, the one with a flashing RED LED is the one that initiated the alarm. (I Would suggest that to be sure, even if you find the flashing LED you still look at all of your smoke alarms)

Mine beeps when the temperature is cold in the front room. None of the others do - is this normal?

No, it is not normal for any smoke alarm to beep when the ambient air is cold. I would suggest you check the age of the back up battery (It should be less than 12  months)

You could also swap the detector with one in a different room and see does the problem persist

It goes without saying that the unit should be less than 10 years old.
