Hinge blade positions and intumescent strips

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

Please can somebody advise, I have over 80 fire doors where the hinge blades have been moved forward.

I thought it was for the batwing seals at first but the gaps on most were 5-7mm which was too much.

This has left a void in the frame where the hinge should be and the intumescent around the frame stops at the hinge. Should this continue behind, filled or frame replaced?

Before you fill that gap with intumescent or non-combustible material check that:

The fire door leaf does not sit proud of the door frame at any point.

Have the hinges been checked for compatibility with the fire door leaf, in terms of fire rating and dimensions?

Are these 'extended butts', are the fire doors intended to open to 180 deg?

Hi Neil,

Thanks for the response much appreciated. I will re-attend site an triple check the above before committing to any remedial works. I don't believe the doors are intended to open to 180 deg.
