1970's purpose built flats, 2 blocks, 3 storeys, 4 flats per floor. 

Having just received our latest FRA it was highlighted that our CCTV equipment is located in our communal areas along an escape route and could be considered a potential source of ignition for fire.  We are told this is not permitted, and the equipment must be rehoused or moved, though it was not mentioned on previous assessments.  The CCTV DVR's are located in small vented metal cases securely attached to brick walls.  These cases can not be sealed as this would cause the equipment to overheat.  Is there such a product available which might seal a vented case in the event of the equipment inside catching fire? (I'm thinking cases with preinstalled intumescent grilles or something like that).  I googled, but can't see anything.  The only alternative would be disconnection of the equipment or trying to squeeze some kind of service cupboard in under the stairs, but the cost would be prohibitive due to extensive re-cabling.

Any advice/ideas/insight much appreciated.

Do you have automatic fire detection in the communal areas and along escape route, if so to what standard.

No fire detection of any kind in the communal stairwells/escape route.  We have always been advised that it is not required in our situation.

It all depends on the fire risk assessor and the level of fire risk he/she considers it to be. Fitting AFD would mitigate that risk that is why I asked.
