I am new to this site and hope you can help me. I own a flat in a block of eight with a cupboard housing the electricity meters situated in a walkway in an area that is open to the air - so not in the actual building. We have been advised by our management company that the cupboard should be fireproofed. It needs work done to it anyway so we are happy to upgrade it. However, we are being quoted £8,000 which we feel is expensive. The management company are saying that we have to use a company that is on their approved list. Is that the case? They're also saying that we should have a surveyor to provide a schedule of works and to oversee the project at a cost of about £2000. They’re quoting public liability and health and safety, etc but the works are not really structural or anything that would cause any issues. It just needs to be constructed from fireproof materials. Does this sound reasonable? I have no idea so any thoughts would be helpful. Many thanks.
