I recently had a smoke alarm fitted by an electrician. It may not be relevant, but as he fitted it, I noticed

that he chopped a few wires. It is only one or two months and was 'apparently a new smoke alarm, but

the green led light that was always on, has switched off, the red led still flashes occasionally. I wondered

if this was serious, or something which I need to fix. . ? many thanks for your time.

It really depends from the model but most mains powered alarms indicate correct power supply with a green light. If this has changed you should call back your electrician.
