  1. Hi Neil,

I have attached a photograph to assist. At the top of the frame we have 1 x 20mm seal. then on both hinge sides (double door set FD30) we have 1 x 10mm seal.

Hinge sides of both leaf we have 1 x 10mm and they will meet with the frame seals if they expand.

On one Leaf where the doors meet when it closes it has one x 10 mm seal.

I take this is incorrectly fitted, or replacement doors with 10mm seals

  2. Hi All,

Hope all are well this evening?

I have been looking at our companies documents on on our fire doo survey sheets it requests frame thickness. What does this refer too and how would it be measured please.

I have also noticed on one of our double leaf sets. Around the frame it has 1 x 20mm intumescent seal. Where the door meets on the closing edge it has 1 x 10mm. Surely this is in correct?

Again we have no certificates or O&M manual for this door

    Thanks Team

    Assuming the door is timber-based.

In the door-closed position the flexible seal should be 'just contacting and giving an even contact with the floor'   or   'with a leakage rate not exceeding 3 cubic metres per hour per metre at 25Pa  when tested to BS476 part 31.1 or BSEN 1634-3'.  this is taken from BS 8214: 2016 Timber-based fire door assemblies - Code of practice.

At between 4mm and 10mm the gap is unlikely to sufficiently restrict the spread of smoke at ambient temperature.  Generally, the gap between the bottom edge of the door and the floor should not exceed 10mm for fire resistance performance.  Check with the particular door manufacturer for the specific tolerances.

    Hi Neil,

Thank you for your reply. I have measured the gap from the floor to the bottom of the leaf it is 24mm. It does have a drop down seal. When the door is closed i feel its dropped down to the maximum

I have a copy of BS8212:2016 and for the love of money cant see this in it

  4. Hi all

In our place of work, we have had a leaf and half fitted with new MDF frame. When the doors close in the centre there is 2 x 15mm strips fitted. one on either door. If there is a fire surly, they won't work correctly?

The meet in the middle and not at all staggered

    thanks Team
