  1. Please can you advise on the following fire detection requirements. A Victorian property that has been split into two semi-detached properties. One semi was then converted in the 50’s into 3 flats. Flat 1 is on the ground floor and has its own front and rear entrances so I assume this would be classed as a maisonette. Flat 2, is on the 2nd floor, with Flat 3 on the 3rd floor. Access to the 2nd floor is from an external concrete/stone build staircase. Entering the external door from the top of the external staircase takes you into a small communal hall. This then has direct access through a fire door to the 2nd floor flat. Another fire door in the communal area leads to a staircase that takes you up to the 3rd floor flat. Flat 1 (maisonette) on the ground floor does not share any communal areas. All 3 flats have some mains operated smoke/heat alarms fitted, but these are all on the individual power consumer units for each flat. Currently all the flats are owner occupied. Please can you advise what sort of system should be installed within the 2nd floor communal area. Thanks
