I am a first timer to forums and relatively new to Fire Protection works and seeking guidance.
I have a fire specialist contractor undertaking fire stopping and compartmentation works in some offices which includes infilling some apertures (approx. size 500x500mm) in a 100 mm wide partition stud wall above a suspended ceiling that is clad with 12.5mm plaster board on both sides. In addition I am also having to infill breaches to a 225mm wide brick wall also above a suspended ceiling where various electrical and IT service are being routed through the aforementioned apertures. Both walls are on fire escape routes or above cross corridor door frames.
I am in dispute with the contractor who has only filled one side of each wall with the 50mm thick ablative batts which are sealed with fire rated mastic. Where the services penetrate the new batts on trays these are also sealed with fire rated mastic
I am insisting that the whole width of the walls should be infilled with the batts and not just one half of the wall. Whereas the contractor is stating that you do not have to fill both sides of the walls to achieve suitable fire 30 minute protection.
Any views would be welcomed .
