If it was a large hotel that doesn't sound appropriate even as a temporary measure, particularly giving out lots of candles!

I strongly suggest that as a matter of urgency you contact the Business Fire Safety department of the Fire & Rescue Service that covers where the hotel was.

The power cut was weather related so couldn’t be helped which I understand but the full hotel was pitch black, it was a Best Western so not a small hotel.

They have charged my card for breakfast we didn’t have and the room which was cold due to no heating, no hot water etc.

I will make some enquiries for it to be inspected as I don’t think it is at all safe.

    thanks

  2. I stayed in a large chain hotel this week which unfortunately had a power cut from mid evening and did not come back on.

I noticed that there was no emergency lighting in the corridors and none functioning on stairways. Our room was pitch black too.

In the morning I noticed they had propped up torches in the corner of the corridors and knocked on before bedtime to offer a candle.

Can anyone tell me whether it is a legal requirement as giving candles to rooms and then no lighting to be able to escape is an accident waiting to happen.

    Many thanks
