How long will it last without mains power please ? I have tested and witnessed my 3 interconnected Ei141 alarms function as expected and yet there is no green LED light. The 9v Batteries must be driving the units. Every 3 years I hear the Chirp so I replace the 9F batter and all appears to work again. So is the mains-power not really necessary ? Or is there a way the GREEN LED can be off for any other reason? Thanks]]

Hi All I have three smoke alarms in the same circuit in the house. Two of these alarms have recently illuminated red and the other is still green. I have tried changing the backup battery on both of these alarms but still the alarms illuminate solid red. I’ve checked the supply and there is definitely a supply to both alarms. The alarms aren’t making a noise unless you press the test button and they work fine but both red lights will not clear? Any advice would be appreciated.

question 1: I have a flat which is first floor and ground floor entrance. The ground floor has a small entrance and straight up the stairs. I understand I have to have detection on every floor, but the area downstairs is to small to install a detector ( 12 inches from wall and 12 inches from light fitting ). Should I just put one close to wall? There is also no feed from the light so can I put a battery operated smoke detector in? Question 2: My other flat has is also first floor and ground floor entrance. But this one has a double height ceiling. so the smoke detector for the ground floor would effectivly be on the first floor ceiling! No electric feed here either??…

I’m having a long drawn out issue with newly installed smoke alarms. Back in January I realised that our old alarms were past their recommended “replace by” date so purchased three new Ei146e alarms to replace the old Ei141RC alarms, one for each of our three floors. I had big problems trying to get them installed successfully and eventually managed it after several interactions with the wholesaler and the manufacturer. However, very soon afterwards the top floor alarm started beeping suggesting a problem with the battery but as the battery was brand new the problem had to be elsewhere. After lots more back and forth between me, the wholesaler and the manufa…

Hi, I'm about to replace our smoke alarms and I believe they are the Ei141. As they are over 10 years old do I need to replace the base as well as the detector? I've looked at https://www.safelincs.co.uk/why-should-smoke-alarms-be-replaced-after-ten-years/ but it does not answer my question. Thanks Darren

Our smoke alarm went off last evening about 4am. Big fright, but appeared to be a false alarm. The alarm went for about 15 sec but than stopped itself. No sign or smell of smoke and no one could have pressed the test button (which only goes for a few seconds). Does this indicate another issue? How can we fix it? How can we check it is working properly? Thank you in advance for your help.

We have an old EI140 smoke detector which we need to replace but can't find this model for sale any longer. Can only find EI14. Will the EI141 head unit fit on the existing EI140 base unit? Don't really want to change the bases if we don't need to.

I'd like to update two old products, marked EI 150, with more recent ones. One downstairs (replace with another ionisation?) Ei 151? One on first floor landing(replace with optical?) Ei 156? 1. Can I use the same base with newer types on the old base please? Current base plate has Live neutral and 'interconnect'? Can I assume the current pair are interconnected? Thanks for any advice. Dave

Hi I have a Deta Model 1163 that keeps getting triggered for no apparent reason. Initially, I thought it was false positives, so left it as is. But it has been triggered three times in the last 24 hours. After two triggers in 12 hours, I thought it could be a battery change and changed the 9v. About two hours later, it's been triggered again. Therefore I have no real idea what it could be.

We have 3 Ei141 smoke alarms.I have just replaced the old ones - they were out of date - with 3 new Ei141RC alarms, using the same base plates. I did this because last week the first alarm in the circuit made the same noise every morning at 7. The noise was quieter than the alarm beeps, repeated rapidly for 2minutes before it stopped. This alerted me with the old Ei141s being over 10 years old. However, after one morning without that sound the same thing has happened again, two days running. so the problem is unresolved. It has made me wonder what this noise actually indicates - being different from the loud alarm sound - and why it happens at the same every morning. Any …

I'm going crazy here. I just moved into my house 2 months ago and the first thing I did when i moved in was replaced the batteries in all the smoke detectors so I know they are good. However, early afternoon today suddenly they started beeping, roughly once every 2 minutes and its been going on for about 9 hours now. I've tried taking the batteries out one at a time, all 3 at the same time. I've tried turning the mains electric supply to the smoke alarms off and i've even had all 3 alarms detached from the mounting plate, with the batteries out and the mains electric turned off and they STILL continue to beep and its driving me completely insane! If anybody ha…

Hi all, Firstly I have since contacted Safelincs and have a replacement unit on the way- thank you so much to the assistance on the phone, it was excellent. I do have a follow up question about our alarms to help me understand what the issue might have been..? Last night our upstairs DETA 1151 IONISATION (manufacture date Nov 2015- house is a new build complete August 2016) smoke alarm went off for the first time, but only the 3 test beeps. This occured intermittently for the following 4 hours, starting at 1am ish. In a household with two under 5s this was worrying of course. There had been no classic chirping regarding low 9v battery at all etc, just thes…

I have two 660 MBX smoke alarms (battery and mains operated). Manufacturing date is 2015. One went off randomly so I pressed hush button. Have cleaned and changed batteries, but as soon as I put a battery in the one that originally went off, it goes off again and will only stop if press hush button. It also constantly flashes red (every second). When I connect to mains the green lights show on both alarms, but the red light constantly flashes and the alarm goes off. Any ideas why it is doing this or what to do?

I'm replacing my EI151 with EI141 but the 141 has it's own replaceable battery rather than a built in rechargeable one. So what do I do with the blue battery wire I have from the old 151?

I had Ei140RC series fitted February 2018. All new units. All new batteries. On one unit, the red light currently flashes twice every 40 seconds, instead of once every 40 seconds. This particular alarm was also beeping three times (not chirping) intermittently over night, at about 3am. I vacuumed around the alarm using the soft brush attachment of the vacuum cleaner; it didn’t beep again, but still it flashes red twice, instead of just once. Green light is solid and there's been no recent power cuts. Can anyone help please; dreading being woken again tonight!

Hi all, Found this forum due to having my Ei141 smoke alarms going off at 5am in the morning - first time it’s happened so we were very rattled by the sound. apologies I’m not too familiar posting on forums but would like some advice, I’ve called the local council for my property (I live in the UK) who have changed 2 out of the three alarms due to being old according to the person today. No smoke was present or anything of the sort when the alarms went off and they all go off at once which to my understanding is interconnected via mains. im a little worried as I do still have one old potentially faulty alarm? I will be calling for this to be replaced b…

Hi I am travelling to Spain and one of my air b n bs has not fire alarm. Quite common it seems in Spain as hardly any have them when I search. I cannot find a travel fire alarm only CO alarms. However, ideally I would like to bring a 2 in 1 with me. I bought a 2 in 1 alarm that is battery operated and has an on/off button so I can turn it off on the plane. However, I know ideally it should be screwed to the wall/ceiling but I cannot do this in a place that isnt my own. If I leave it high up on shelf on it´s side aganst a wall in a common area would this be ok?

Hi, I live in a 3-storey leasehold property with five flats (two on ground floor, two on first floor and one on second). The only fire detection system in place is a couple of linked Fireangel WST630 smoke detectors in the communal corridors. We've recently had fire risk assessment that says the responsible person needs to test the fire alarm system once a month but must have it serviced once every six months by a "competent professional". As far as I'm aware there's no other duties that need to be done for fire compliance in this property every 6 months, and as the smoke alarms are battery operated as opposed to wired (10 year battery on its 3rd year), so …

Hi, we are converting our basement into a living space and will obviously need a smoke detector/fire alarm down there. When we confirmed the requirements with Building Regs they have said it needs to be hard-wired and interconnected with alarms in the rest of the house. Our current alarms aren’t hard-wired and we have asked if we can hard-wire the one in the basement and use wireless ones in the rest of the house to interlink but they have said it’s against regulations. Obviously having alarms wired in around the house is going to be costly and disruptive, I’m just trying to find out if there is any way to avoid this? Thanks in advance
