Is a rim lock allowed on fire door?

Hello,

I am changing a standard door to a fire door in a school. At present there is a rim lock on the door that enters the classroom. Please can you advise me if this is still suitable and if not, what lock i will have to put on the door to secure at night.

I fear that in the event of fire a child can release the latch on the rim lock and prevent a safe exit.

Your advice is greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

The rim lock on my front door consists of a cylinder on the outside and a short lever on the inside and the snip can be overridden when you operate the lever, however if the snip can lock the door and prevent it being opened then it needs to be replaced. The rule is a door required for mean of escape, should be easily opened with one action in the direction of escape.
