How to get rid of smell after a fire?

Hello,

I need some advice on cleaning up after a fire. All the soft furnishings, clothes, carpets etc smell strongly of smoke. Obviously the clothes can be washed, but is it sufficient to air items like sofas and mattresses or is something more needed? Any advice would be appreciated.

Many thanks,
Catherine

Hi Catherine

We and the salvage corps used to carry a deodorizing spray for that very purpose and I would think any deodorizing spray should be effective but it is a difficult smell to eradicate.
